President's Message

Hello WTS Members and Friends,

It’s been a while. You may be thinking, I don’t remember seeing a WTS Newsletter for May. That is correct. May was a whirlwind month for all of us, including me! Between work, WTS, traveling, and end of school activities, I’m just glad I survived the month. With one child graduating from high school and about to launch, and my "baby" entering high school, I am reminded once again how quickly life moves. And, according to Ferris, "if we don’t stop and look around once in a while, we could miss it all." I hope that all of you have a chance to travel, spend time with friends and family, and play a little bit this summer.

At the WTS International Conference in Atlanta, GA in May, we were honored once again to receive the Gold Circle of Excellence Award for the Greater DFW Chapter. This recognition is awarded to chapters who achieve significant benchmarks in membership recruitment, and retention; operations; communications and events; and professional development programs. We owe all of this to our members, corporate partners, and volunteers. So congratulations to all of you on this achievement!! I am honored to serve as your president. Our Lagers & Leadership on May 25 at World of Beer in Fort Worth with Alexandra Ayala from City of Fort Worth was an amazing event! Folks enjoyed hearing about Alex’s career path and networking with fellow members.

June and July will be slow months for WTS Greater DFW Chapter. But after a month full of banquets, conferences, Lagers & Leadership and Professional Development, I think we can all benefit from a little less. We will focus on planning for our Fall Golf Tournament and supporting our Transportation YOU students as they attend the WTS Capital Summit in Virginia.

June is also Pride Month. At WTS, we believe in ending discrimination and embracing and partnering with members of the LGBTQ community and all people to gain equity and access in the transportation industry. One way we can all do that is by paying attention to gender pronouns and understanding why they matter. Gender pronouns represent how someone identifies, and when used correctly, show respect for someone’s gender identity and create an inclusive environment. Using someone’s gender pronouns is one of the most basic ways to show your respect. If you don’t know someone’s pronouns, simply ask. My pronouns are she/her. What are yours?

If you would like to become more involved in our chapter, there are plenty of opportunities to help with a variety of committees, activities, and programs. Please reach out to anyone on our leadership team if you’d like to find out more. As always, remember to stay safe, take care of yourself, and respect each other. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Caren Chambers, P.E.
President, Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter
