There were lots of excellent, thought-provoking comments last week about a "Question of Editorial Ethics." It's worth a second look just to read the comments.

This week, I discovered an undocumented feature in Final Cut that verifies and repairs damaged timeline projects. There's nothing in the Help files about this.

This week marks a new record for tutorials released in one week: eight! Farther down in this newsletter are reports and tutorials on unexpected slowdowns in Final Cut, the challenges in getting DVD Studio Pro 4 running on older computers, a review of adapters from USB-A to USB-C, and four highlights from last week's webinar! See the Tutorials & Review section below.

In the news:

Synology released their latest 2-drive NAS (server), the DS-723+. Designed for home and small business storage, the DS723+ offers comprehensive solutions to protect and manage business data, easily collaborate on documents, access files remotely, and monitor physical assets, all within a compact desktop format.

FXFactory continues releasing new effects, titles and generators for a variety of software. I get new release notices every week. If you haven't visited their site recently, there's always something new to see when you do.

My next webinar, this Wednesday, presents "Advanced Features in Adobe Premiere Pro." In this session, I'll look at captions, speech-to-text and effects tracking. Plus, as always, answering questions. Registration is free - pick the time that works best for you.

it's a small thing, but if you are trying to connect USB-A cable to your USB-C Mac, unless you have an adapter, you are out of luck. Here I review USB adapters from Syntech that solve this problem easily and inexpensively. (File this in the category of: "For want of a nail, the kingdom was lost.")

Richard Osso makes his living creating DVDs for wedding and event clients. The problem is that Apple has decided that DVDs are not worth supporting. With his business in jeopardy, Dick began an odyssey to get DVD Studio Pro 4 working so he could go back to meeting the needs of paying clients. This is his story.

Tangier Clarke discovered a problem with Final Cut Pro that drastically slows performance. We don't have a solution, but we do have a better idea of the cause.

Plus, I have four new video tutorials from last week's Final Cut Pro webinar:

January is the month when developers get back to work after the holidays. There isn't a lot of new news happening - that comes later this quarter. For now, all we need to do is wait. Well, wait and get our own work done. That's enough to keep us busy.

Until next Monday, stay healthy, stay safe and edit well.
