A Message From Our President

Hello Friends!

It is hard to believe that Spring is right around the corner this month! It will be great to have spring weather and wildflowers to enjoy over the next several weeks. Last month, we brought in 13 dogs which included three 8.5-week-old puppies, an 8.5-year retired breeding girl and a trio of seniors whose owner suddenly died. Year to date, we are still on track to bring in about 145 dogs. We are still processing an average of 55 applications per month.

This month we have some great stuff going on. Amplify Austin starts at 6pm on March 5th and runs for a 24-hour period; however there is the opportunity to do early giving now. All donations given go directly to cover the costs of our Goldens. Every dollar matters and we appreciate your support. On March 16th, the Golden Springaling is coming at the 5 Soul Wine Co. & Frontyard Brewing. We hope you will be able to bring your pup out and mix and mingle with the GRR community.

Currently, we have 9 seniors in our care which includes 2 bonded pairs, and we have another bonded pair of senior gals waiting to come in. Our biggest need right now is for foster families and adoptive families who want to give these seniors a better life. Most of them have had to learn what it is like to be part of a family and live inside a home. The unconditional love that a senior Golden has to give is truly something special. Please visit our website to view our foster and adoption policies and get your application submitted today!

Best regards,

Michelle

HAPPY SPRING!

Seniors Are Golden!

Imagine the joy of sharing your days with a wise and loving friend who simply wants to be by your side. That’s what you’ll have with a senior Golden.

A recent adopter of a GRR senior Golden sent us this missive. They tell the senior story much better than we possibly could!

The Howard family dog pack has grown. We recently adopted a precious 8 year senior Golden GRR 24-124 Sunny who has fit right into our family -- like it was meant to be. Our two other senior rescue dog family members, 14 year old Daisy and special needs Leon, are sharing their toys and learning how to stay clear of Sunny’s enormous paws.

We knew when we added to our pack it would have to be a calmer, older dog who, like us, would enjoy a life of retirement. Older dogs have so much to give. They need a family to open their hearts so they can be loved and cherished. We believe Sunny deserves a wonderful life with a loving family so we brought him into our family.

Gold Ribbon Rescue matched us with the perfect dog. Sunny’s disposition is so amazing. He tolerates Daisy’s bossiness and Leon’s erratic falling over and occasionally bumping into him with such patience. Senior Goldens are so special and eager to please. Even at 8 years, Sunny is ready to learn new things. While you may have fewer years with a senior Golden, they will be filled with as much love, trust, and adventure as you’d have with a younger pup. We already love Sunny so much and know he will bring us many years of laughter and happiness. Senior Goldens are awesome.

Do you have room in your heart to shower a senior Golden with love?

We currently have 9 senior Goldens ready for their forever home.

Senior Goldens are truly awesome.  Check out our seniors. You'll be glad you did!

Adopted GRR Dogs Helping with Foster Dogs

Some of our adopted GRR dogs help with foster dogs in the home. These dogs help socialize and teach fosters, assisting the humans to create a positive foster home environment.

An example of this is Carolyn and Steve’s GRR dog Bear. They are fostering 24-126 Starr. Carolyn says that Starr looks to Bear for cues and reassurance. Starr continues to get acclimated to being inside and has gotten a little bolder. She used to spend most of her inside time in the utility room which is her safe place. Now she ventures out into the main living area more and settles on several different rugs.

Bear has given up on trying to get her to play, but they will roam the backyard together. Starr has come so far since she first arrived! She has gained so much more confidence and is getting more relaxed around the house. Bear has helped her come out of her shell. Many thanks to Bear and to all of our adopted GRR dogs who help with foster dogs.

Starr is available for adoption so please reach out to your matchmaker for more information or complete an application.

Here's Our Roundup!

Our New Arrivals - Welcome to Golden Ribbon Rescue!

25-012 Orla was our first intake dog of February and she is sure to steal some hearts. Orla, which means "Golden Princess" in Irish, was a stray and we were contacted by the Weslaco animal shelter to see if we could help her. We don’t know much about her except that she seems very sweet. We took one look at this cutie and it was an immediate YES! She is with her Foster Hope to Adopt (FHTA) family and is beginning her new life as a GRR dog.

25-013 Brody is a 10-year-old from Georgetown who was rehomed because the owner has had some life changes, including a return to working in the office, which leaves Brody alone for eleven to twelve hours a day. The owner is also moving to Colorado in July and her fiancé is very allergic to dog hair and dander, “so I just don’t see how I could bring Brody into a home where someone couldn’t be around him.” Brody loves people of all sizes and he may be an older guy, but heR has a lot of life left in him. He sounds like a super star to us! Welcome Brody!

Please welcome our newest group of multiple Goldens; Remington 25-014, Beretta 25-015 and Benelli 25-016! The three were rehomed to GRR because their owner passed away suddenly and we were contacted to see if we could help. Remington is a 9-year-old female who is the mother of 8 year old Benelli and 9 year old Beretta is Benelli's father. It is understandably upsetting to them to lose their home, but we will do everything that we can to make their transition as easy as possible and find them their best second chance home. Beretta is with his foster family and Remington and Benelli are with their FHTA families.

25-017 Coconut and 25-018 Mindie are two beautiful girls who have joined the GRR family due to a major shift in their family's dynamic. The family suddenly took in five more children to care for and knew the girls needed more than what they could provide due to the rapid enlargement of their family. Both Coconut and Mindie are 15 months old and they are each with their foster-hope-to-adopt (FHTA) family.

25-019 Luigi is a 15-month-old boy who is a typical adolescent Golden who is very active and curious about all of the things that life has to offer. He was rehomed to GRR as his family isn’t able to provide the time and attention that he needs. Luigi lived largely outdoors and, since he was bored, he kept digging out of the yard and running around. The owner told us “The neighbors pick him on their Ring cameras and call me and I have to leave work and go get him.” For his safety and the family’s sanity he really needed to move to a safe place sooner rather than later. Luigi is with his foster-hope-to-adopt (FHTA) family.

25-020 Sasha is a sweet 8 1/2-year-old redhead who was rehomed to GRR due to her previous owner’s job change and living conditions that made it impossible for him to continue to provide the care Sasha needed. He knew GRR would be the best option. She is gentle and friendly and we are excited to learn more about her over the next few weeks as she settles in with her foster family.

25-021 Baileys Irish Cream is an almost 8 1/2-year-old who is now officially retired from her life as a breeding Golden. Those days are behind her and now she'll be able to learn what it's like being a family member and experience all of the best things a life that being a GRR dog brings. She's not quite as timid as some of our other retired breeding dogs that we have brought in lately. She absolutely loved feeling the air conditioning blowing on her face, quite possibly for the first time. Sudden movements and loud noises startle her and she will need lots of TLC; however, we know she truly has a heart of gold. This blonde beauty is active and playful and is with her foster family.

Introducing our Powerpuff girls! While we have been seeing a huge influx of Golden oldies this year, we have to take time to welcome these three precious girls to GRR. Please allow us to present 25-022 Blossom, 25-023 Bubbles and 25-024 Buttercup. They were born on Christmas Day so they are just 8 1/2 weeks old. They are from a litter of nine from their 1 year old mom. The previous owner contacted GRR when he was struggling to sell them and he knew we’d find the best homes for these babies. These little gold fluffballs are absolutely adorable and keep their foster family busy with their puppy antics.

My Dream Come True! Adopted!

Willie 25-006 was adopted by Sean and Pamela on February 1st. Once again, that story about the divorce, the move to an apartment, and not enough time for the poor dog. Thankfully, sweet Willie has found the perfect home with the help of GRR! We knew that Willie loved the water and Sean and Pam just happen to have a pool for his enjoyment! In fact, in no time at all once they got home, that boy was in the water! Willie loves the water, loves to play and is a total Velcro boy! Sometimes when he’s naughty, he smiles and squints his eyes at you! Willie hit the jackpot with his new family! Congratulations to all

Tex 25-010, who just turned 8 years old last month, was adopted on February 6th by Marla and Ed and canine brother Remy, former GRR alum Mongo 23-092. Tex's story is familiar: once again, a busy household, three children born after they got Tex, both parents work and the family has a busy schedule. There was some emotion in surrendering him because he is such a good dog. He is so lucky to join his new family because he gets so much attention and love with them! What a sweet love story!

Our sweet little Olive 24-120 was adopted on February 7th by Paige and Chase. Olive came to us from the Del Rio shelter last December as a 4 month old pup who was surrendered to the shelter because her family couldn't care for her. Our amazing team swooped in and brought this sweet girl to GRR. Fast forward, Olive's search for her forever home has ended. She is now in her her forever home with her new parents, canine brother, Max, and feline friend, Birdie. Congratulations to Olive and her new family!

Sweet Glinda 24-122 was adopted on February 8th by Amber and her new canine sibling, Rusty. Glinda,

now Ellie, is our valley girl who had a rough start in her life as she and three other Goldens were rescued last December from a backyard breeding situation. When brought into GRR’s care, Ellie was very sweet, but anxious, and was completely unfamiliar with walking on leash. Over time, with some tender love and care, Ellie has blossomed and has really come out of her shell. She has settled well into her new home, loves her big brother, and always has her lamb chop toy close by. Ellie’s “goofy side” is also starting to come out, as she loves to collect toys into a massive pile! Such a happy story!

We are so happy for sweet Sunny 24-127, who found his forever home on February 16th with James and Bonnie. They have a 14 year old Beagle named Daisy and a smaller, special needs 8 year old miniature poodle named Leon who is blind and has some neurological issues. They felt that Sunny would be fine with both dogs, as he seemed very careful around Leon, which was their main concern. Sunny is an 8 year old retired breeding dog from the Waco area. From living outside to his new indoor life; Sunny is ecstatic! Read about senior Sunny's adoption in the Seniors are Golden! article at the top of the newsletter.

Our sweet little petite girl I Love Lucy 24-114, who just turned 1 year old on February 1st, was happily adopted on February 21st by Karen and David. They are former GRR adopters of Miles, formerly Winslow 22-048 and Lucy just completes their family! Her former owner bought her on a whim at 11 weeks old from Puppyland in San Antonio and just didn’t think through getting such a wild child puppy! Thanks to some time at at Einstein K-9, Lucy is quickly learning proper behavior and doing very well with her new family and her new dog buddy. Congratulations to the new family!

Callie 25-001, now Ellie, was adopted on February 22nd by Debbie and Paul. They say she is the sweetest girl and has so much playful puppy energy. Ellie is an explorer who loves giving big slobbery kisses to everyone, especially their 13-year-old grandson. She loves playing with her three-year-old Border Collie sister, Ava, and she adores cuddling. It’s easy to see why her people cannot imagine a more perfect family member! Congratulations to Miss Ellie and family! Enjoy your future adventures, sweet girl, and all of the loving that you can get.

On February 24th Otto 25-007, the ultimate stick collector, found his perfect match with his new parents, David and Olivia, and his new human siblings. Whether he's proudly carrying a branch on his walk or trying (and failing) to sneak one into the house, this smart and eager-to-please boy always keeps life entertaining. He even had a blast running around the backyard with a giant carrot, proving that fun comes in all shapes and sizes! One thing is certain: he has found a home where he will be loved beyond measure. Congratulations to Otto and his forever family.

We are so excited to finally announce that Magic 24-103 was adopted on February 28th by Danny and Paul, his FHTA family. Magic arrived into our care in October of last year. After spending some time in board and train and undergoing heartworm treatment, he is finally ready to officially become part of his forever family. Danny and Paul absolutely adore Magic and we are so excited for the many adventures that await him. He has been approved as a Whole Foods Family Dog and has already been enjoying going to work with Paul where he holds a position of Chief Napping Officer. Huge congratulations to Paul and Danny and Magic.

Max (Kai) 16-073

Martha Sue and Richey

We just wanted to let you know that our dear dog died at 13 1/2 years of age. We called him Max 16-073 but we adopted him from you when he was named Kai. He was a loving member of our family household. Thank you for allowing us to adopt him.

Stella (Galway Girl) 12-026

Rebecca and Mike

We lost one of our little love bugs a few weeks back. Stella checked in to doggie heaven and I'm sure she's got all the other dogs up there marching to the bark of a different drummer. We sure miss the constant orders being barked out down here. I'm sure puppy fever is around the corner.

Note: Stella came to GRR in the Saint Patrick's Day litter in 2012.

Bojangles (Jingle) 22-039

Patricia

I had to let Bojangles (Jingle 22-039) go today (February 27th). I am devastated. My vet did everything he could to keep him comfortable and treat him with meds to see if he could recover; however, today his condition deteriorated. I am heartbroken and yet, even through my tears, I am so grateful for the time we had together and am comforted that he was with me and - as always – Bojangles shared unconditional love.
