Student & Staff Reboot Day

Students and staff recently took part in a Reboot Day, during which students revisited building-wide behavior expectations and essential character traits, while staff engaged in learning about Student Connectedness.

The day was filled with fun and meaningful experiences for everyone involved!

Building Stronger Support for McKinney-Vento Students in Southern Illinois

The Regional Office of Education 21 (ROE 21) McKinney-Vento Liaisons along with District Liaisons have been hard at work expanding the Southern Illinois MKV team, by involving district personnel and community agencies. This collaboration ensures greater support for McKinney-Vento (MKV) eligible students bringing a lasting impact on the lives of these students.

To date we have identified 1,312 McKinney-Vento eligible students across Franklin, Williamson, Johnson, and Massac counties. These 1,312 students will now have access to resources and support that remove barriers to enrollment, attendance, and academic success. Early identification means that these students will receive the services they need for a more positive school experience and greater opportunities for academic achievement.

To further strengthen these efforts, Area 6 Regional MKV liaisons recently had the privilege of training members of the district MKV teams, focusing on the critical enrollment rights of McKinney-Vento eligible students. One important fact shared during the training was that each school move can cause a student to lose 4-6 months of academic progress. That’s why the McKinney-Vento Act ensures these students have the right to remain in their school of origin, regardless of where they sleep at night.

With this knowledge, the Southern Illinois MKV team members are better equipped to support students and their families as they navigate school enrollment and overcome barriers to education.

The Southern Illinois MKV team continues to grow, and we remain committed to ensuring that every student has the support they need to succeed. Together, we’re making a difference in the lives of McKinney-Vento eligible students, ensuring a brighter future for all!

CTE Spotlight:

Zeigler-Royalton High School

We’re excited to showcase the incredible work happening in Mrs. Eastwood's Sports Marketing class at Zeigler-Royalton High School. Her students are learning hands-on skills that connect creativity with practical, real-world applications.

This class is anything but ordinary. Students start by using Canva.com to design custom shirts and experiment with Direct Film Print techniques. From there, they use a heat press to bring their ideas to life, creating shirts and hats that look professional and polished.

But it doesn’t stop at apparel! The class also works with an X Tool to engrave materials like wood, metal, and cups, expanding their skills and exploring new creative possibilities. These projects not only give students valuable technical experience but also teach problem-solving and innovation—qualities they’ll carry into their future careers.

These photos show students in action, pressing shirts and making the most of their classroom resources. Programs like this are what make CTE so impactful, giving students the chance to turn ideas into tangible creations.
