To The Ice

Felix Powell, Boy Dog

Safiyyah's War

by Hiba Noor Khan

Safiyyah loathes the brutal Nazi occupation of Paris, even though her Muslim identity keeps her safe--or, at least, safer than her Jewish neighbors. Safiyyah longs to fight back and hates feeling powerless to help her Jewish friends. Worse yet, her father--who taught her to always do the right thing--is acting strangely and doing nothing to help them either. Or is he? Unravelling the mystery of her father's odd behavior draws Safiyyah deep in the heart of the perilous underground resistance to the Nazis, where her bravery is put to the ultimate test.

Marcus Vega Doesn't Speak Spanish

by Pablo Cartaya

Marcus Vega is six feet tall, 180 pounds, and the owner of a premature mustache. When you look like this and you're only in the eighth grade, you're both a threat and a target. After a fight at school leaves Marcus facing suspension, Marcus's mom decides it's time for a change of environment. She takes Marcus and his younger brother to Puerto Rico to spend a week with relatives they don't remember or have never met. But Marcus can't focus knowing that his father--who walked out of their lives ten years ago--is somewhere on the island. So begins Marcus's incredible journey, a series of misadventures that take him all over Puerto Rico in search of his elusive namesake.

Uprooted: A Memoir About What Happens When Your Family Moves Back by Ruth Chan

Moving is hard but moving to a new country is harder especially when you leave a brother behind and don’t have enough of the language to speak with family and make your way around the city. Ruth Chan’s family moved from Toronto, Canada to Hong Kong when she was 13 leaving her brother behind in boarding school. It was moving home for her parents especially as her mother’s family were all close by but for Ruth it was a new culture, language - two, actually, as she attended the German International School and new friends. She felt alone and awkward even more than your average 13 year old. But with courage, perseverance and patience learned through the stories told by her father, she thrived as her parents knew she would.
