Nourishing Our Spirits

Sunday Service - March 2nd, 2025

As Old As Humankind

TrUUe Colors

Musicians, scientists, artists, politicians, parents, leaders, doctors -- for as long as human societies have been around, so have we. In this service, the TrUUe Colors team, which includes members of our LGBTQIA+ community, will introduce us to transgender folks who have made a notable contribution to society.

During the duration of our OWL program, all children should report directly to their respective classrooms.

Joys and Sorrows

A Joy from Midge Miles: David has completed his 6 weeks of antibiotic infusions and is, we hope, now infection free, and ready and able to resume his active 86 year old lifestyle!

A Joy from Connie Hester: It was a joy to learn that Sue Broughton was recognized at the PIIN banquet. For the past 25 years, she has provided outstanding leadership, dedication, and faithful service to PIIN. PIIN is the Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network of churches, bringing racial diverse congregations together for the common good. Be sure to congratulate Sue!

A Joy from James Clarke: On February 19th, he was officially ordained as an interfaith chaplain by The Order of Universal Interfaith. You can attend his ordination ceremony online via the details he provided in the UUCNH Community Facebook Group.

A Sorrow from James Clarke: On February 20th, his father passed away in a Florida hospice following complications from a stroke and a struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. James was able to visit his dad before he died and tell him the important, meaningful, and compassionate things he needed to, as well as tell him about the ordination.

Note: When you want to share a joy or sorrow submit it electronically by clicking here by Saturday. Alternatively, you may can fill out a card as you enter the sanctuary on Sunday.

UUCNH Children's Library Thanks You

Thanks so much to the Craft Group, Robyn Travers, and the generous adoptees of the new picture books for the UUCNH Children's Collection.  All of the books have now been adopted!

On Sunday, March 9th, during coffee hour the books will be on display. If you sponsored a book, please stop by to see your bookplate inside the front cover (or on the back for board books).

We are happy that more and more folks are using the children's library. If you wish to borrow a book, please check it out by entering the required information in our Circulation Binder. Kathy and Julie can help you with this.

Side With Love, The Gathering

The Gathering is a new monthly virtual event from Side With Love, designed to offer:

  • Spiritual Grounding – Strengthen your heart and spirit for the work ahead.
  • Political Analysis – Understand the threats to democracy and justice.
  • Collective Action – Organize with others to block anti-democratic forces and build a just and loving world.

Like those who came before us, we must be ready—ready to resist injustice, protect democracy, and create a future where love and dignity prevail. The Gathering is a space to find inspiration, connect with others, and take action that matters.

The First Gathering is online on March 10. Register here

Refugee Resettlement Engagement

Thank you to everyone who contributed time and purchased household items for the refugee families. Unfortunately, the JFCS program is not placing additional families at this time. One way we can continue to show support is by purchasing items from JFCS wish lists. Community members can purchase items that will be shipped directly to the JFCS office and then delivered to refugee families. (If you purchase an item on the wish list, please let us know!). We are also exploring ways in which we might engage directly with families and will share this information as it becomes available. Please reach out to allysonzadnik@uucnh.org with questions.

Food Pantry Donations

UUCNH has a food pantry for donations to North Hills Community Outreach located in friendship hall. Please consider donating non-perishable food items, hygiene and cleaning supplies.

Did you forget your items? No problem... you can buy a grocery card and donate it.

Buy a Grocery Card

UUCNH benefits when you buy Giant Eagle and/or Kuhn’s Gift Cards at no extra expense to you! Both stores donate $5 to UUCNH for every $100 of gift card value sold. Grocery cards are sold by the ushers in Friendship Hall after the Sunday service.

Support Fair Trade

Fair Trade Equal Exchange Coffee, Tea, and Chocolates are always available to purchase from their usual display in Friendship Hall.

Mother Earth and small-scale farmers benefit when you buy Fair Trade Equal Exchange products.
