Important Message on Traffic Safety

Dear Fair Lawn Families, Staff, and Community Members,

We are writing to inform you about an incident that occurred this afternoon, Wednesday, February 26, after school dismissal. A Thomas Jefferson Middle School student was hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle on Morlot Avenue near Route 208, several blocks away from school. We are thankful to the Fair Lawn Police Department and Fair Lawn Volunteer Ambulance Corps for their prompt response to provide assistance. The student was transported to a local hospital for treatment and further assessment of injuries determined to be non-life-threatening. The FLPD reported that they will not be issuing a summons in this incident. 

There is nothing more important to our school district than ensuring the safety and well-being of our students. Safety protocols throughout the Fair Lawn community are continuously monitored, evaluated, and updated to provide the highest level of protection for all students and residents. As we emerge from winter and head toward warmer temperatures, we urge everyone to exercise increased caution and vigilance when driving and to be particularly attentive to students and families on the roads who may be walking or cycling to and from school. 

School counselors will be available at TJMS  tomorrow for any student who may need support following this incident. We appreciate your ongoing understanding and partnership as we navigate this situation together.
