THURSDAY: Search & Screen Committee and Chair Training

This is the training required for search and screen committee members. Due to the large number of employees who have previously attended, we only offer this training one time per month, so don't miss this opportunity! This session will be held remotely using the Zoom link listed below. The first hour and 1/2 is for all committee members. NEW: Training Information

Thank you all for taking the time to complete your Vector training this past semester. We are aware of a survey glitch occurring for many of you. Please note, this survey requirement is not needed and you will not be penalized for failing to complete it. We can see your completion on our end so please check if you would like to, but you may disregard the survey notice. We also appreciate your input and feedback as we know this training has been very glitchy and convoluted. We are currently researching ways to implement a better process to make our training more streamlined. We will share news about this process as we complete it. Please continue to offer your feedback so we can improve. We hope to continue to train you and your departments and will be happy to come in person anytime. Are you interested in giving campus tours and talking to prospective students about CSU Pueblo? Apply now to be a Student Ambassador! Student Ambassadors should be engaging, able to communicate with individuals and groups, have a strong knowledge of the University and demonstrate pride for CSU Pueblo.

Ambassadors will give daily campus and group tours and provide office coverage for the Visitor Center and Admissions. They will assist with Discover Visit Days, high school visits, recruitment efforts, and other recruitment events.

We have work study and hourly positions open (as needed). This position is open to any student (Freshman through Senior) who intends to work for the Visitor Center for at least one year.

Threlkeld Prize Application Due February 1, 2023

Please encourage all graduating seniors to apply: The Threlkeld Prize for Excellence is an award that CSU Pueblo bestows upon a top graduate each year. This prestigious student award was created in 1990 to honor the memory of Budge Threlkeld, a well-respected faculty member and beloved member of the Pueblo Community. The selected recipient will receive a monetary award, be recognized at the spring commencement, and will receive the first diploma at commencement.

Eligibility:

• Graduating senior (Fall 2022, Spring 2023, or Summer 2023)

• Completed at least 4 semesters at CSU Pueblo

• Attained a 3.7 GPA (not cumulative, not rounded) for three full-time consecutive semesters prior to nomination

• Demonstrated service to CSU Pueblo and the community.

The Application deadline is February 1, 2023 at 11:59 p.m.

IT Security: QR Codes: A Growing Vulnerability to Cyber Crimes

Consumer technologies continue to become increasingly innovative. While they often make our lives better, these new technologies give cyber criminals new ways to threaten our privacy and steal our identities. As QR codes continue to grow in popularity, cyber criminals have begun to use them to conduct their malicious attacks.

Smartphones make QR code scanning easy. By simply pointing the phone’s camera at the QR code, consumers can access promotions, see restaurant menus, access digital tickets, and more. However, not all QR codes are legitimate.

The FBI has issued warnings about cyber criminals tampering with QR codes to steal users’ login and financial information. After scanning a QR code, victims can be directed to a website disguised as legitimate but that gathers identity information and inserts digital infections.

Creative Commons Certificate Training

The CDHE is sponsoring a cohort of Colorado librarians, educators, instructional designers, and students to complete the Creative Commons Certificate training (https://certificates.creativecommons.org/) The Certificate program offers in-depth courses about CC licenses, open practices, and the ethos of the Commons. The course is ideal for anyone who is looking to gain deeper knowledge of copyright, wanting to work on open education or open access initiatives, or develop capacity in opening access to cultural heritage.

The next 10-week online course runs January 30 - April 9 with support for cohorts of 25 learners per facilitator. Submit an application to join the next Colorado CC Certificate cohort!

Online Hyflex General Education Course (POLS 101)

The Spring 2023 online section of POLS 101 American National Politics is asynchronous – so it can be made to fit your work week. But its weekly lecture-and-discussion session is also live, so when your schedule allows you can either attend in person or live-stream on Zoom. (Otherwise, just watch the recording.) Enroll is this HYFLEX course to learn all about how America’s government and politics really work. The course analyzes party polarization, congressional gridlock, the Constitution, Supreme Court, civil liberties, civil rights, political economy, public policy, and many other essential topics.
