A Message from Pastor Carolyn

Friday, January 13, 2023

Dear Saint Mark Family,

I pray this note finds you well.

Each week, I look back on what we experienced in worship the previous Sunday and wonder how it has impacted, or has transformed the life of Saint Mark. This past Sunday, we celebrated the Baptism of Our Lord. At the end of both services, I invited everyone to come forward to the font, touch the water, and mark your forehead, or the inner part of your wrist with the sign of the cross. I also reminded each of you to remember your baptism, more pointedly, to remember that you are baptized. Reflecting on our time in worship, I hope you have lived this truth throughout the week, at home, at work, at school, at the grocery store, or wherever you have encountered other people. I pray you will always live the truth that you are baptized.

I want to take this time to share with you the names of your 2023 lay leaders, who make up the Administrative Board of the church:

  • Amber Stewart – Chair, Church Council
  • Mitch Foster II – Vice Chair, Church Council
  • Eric Steverson – Secretary
  • Joel Black – Treasurer
  • Kathy Fazenbaker – Lay Leader
  • Jon Woody – Lay Leader
  • Mary Abbott Waite – Story Keeper
  • Mark Woods – Finance Chair
  • Greg Washington – Finance Vice Chair
  • Jeff Collins-Smythe – Ministries Chair
  • Karen Hannula – Ministries Vice Chair
  • Lily Berrios – Staff Parish Relations Chair
  • Noey Barrera-Disler – Staff Parish Relations Vice Chair
  • Belva White – Trustees Chair
  • Lee Edwards – Trustees Vice Chair

Please feel free to speak with any of them about questions you may have concerning the life of the church. They are committed to working to ensure Saint Mark is a fruitful and thriving congregation in all the ways that glorify God. I am truly thankful for their commitment, and to be doing the work of Christ with them.

I must say a special thanks to each of you who gave to the church’s 2022 operating funds. Because of your generosity, we have met all our financial obligations, and have a small surplus. Your giving has impacted lives in more ways that can be counted, and makes it possible for us to continue sharing the news of God’s love.

Thank you.

Finally, this Sunday, we will begin a new sermon series entitled (Re)Building a Legacy. We will be delving into the Book of Nehemiah, and looking at how one man, by the help of God, led a great work to rebuild a place that had significant value to him and an entire people. I pray you will come on out and let’s discover how God might be calling us to do a work of great value. I look forward to seeing you!

God’s blessings,

Pastor Carolyn.
