Construction Update
Exit 16 DDI
DATE: Wednesday, February 8, 2023

TRAFFIC IMPACT AND DURATION:
Crews will be onsite Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Traffic impacts will be restricted to the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Starting TOMORROW, Thursday, February 9, and continuing through next week, crews will continue working behind the bridge piers on both sides of the interstate bridges over U.S. Routes 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) under lane closures and width reductions.

This work will require closures of the outermost lanes on U.S. 2/7 in both directions. In addition, lane width reductions along the I-89 southbound onramp on the east side of U.S. 2/7 and the I-89 southbound offramp on the west side of U.S. 2/7 will be in effect. The I-89 ramps will remain open.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
Crews will continue preparing the area behind the bridge piers on both sides of the interstate bridges over U.S. 2/7 to facilitate the installation of retaining walls. Starting tomorrow, Thursday, February 9, and continuing over the next several weeks, crews will be working on both sides of U.S. 2/7 simultaneously.

Along the east side of U.S. 2/7, crews will continue removing material and shoring (installing temporary structural reinforcement) the excavated area in preparation for the installation of the retaining wall starting Friday, February 10. Next week, crews will continue installing the retaining wall. This work will be completed under lane closure of the outer northbound travel lane on U.S. 2/7 and lane width reduction of the I-89 southbound onramp.

Along the west side of U.S. 2/7, crews will begin removing material including ledge over the next several weeks to facilitate the installation of retaining walls. This work will include hammering to break up the ledge for removal. This work will be completed under lane closure of the outer southbound travel lane on U.S. 2/7 and lane width reduction of the I-89 southbound offramp.
Crews work to install temporary structural reinforcement (shoring) under the east interstate bridge abutment to facilitate the installation of the retaining wall. The retaining wall will provide access for pedestrians and bicyclists temporarily throughout phase 2 construction and permanently through the installation of the future shared-use path.
LOCATION: U.S. Routes 2/7 (U.S. 2/7) in Colchester starting at the Winooski town line and continuing north for 1.05 miles to Sunderland Woods Road.
