Pilot Program Exceeds Expectations!
Growth and innovation – these are the two words that come to mind when I think about the IPS pilot program.
Over the course of four weeks last month, our team had the opportunity to test out our unique curriculum with four students interested in carpentry. Throughout the program, our team and our students become innovators together. The IPS team tested out various teaching methods and our approach to project-based learning, which involved safe tool usage, project planning and working on a team. The students provided daily feedback and displayed a great attitude while our team fine-tuned this process. Throughout the day, lessons covered a wide variety of hard and soft skills including workplace safety, the use of PPE and math skills with lessons about workplace readiness, self advocacy and career opportunities within the trades.
None of this success would have been possible without the support of the students’ families who entrusted us with teaching their loved ones. We thank them for giving us the opportunity to witness the promise of IPS. We saw growth in just four weeks for these students... can you imagine what 9.5 months will do for our future students?!
The pilot is critical to shaping our 2023 program and that work has already begun. Our team will use the data to create a better-informed curriculum to launch our first class next August. We look forward to sharing more details in the coming months. For now, let me take the opportunity to wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving on behalf of everyone at IPS.
