Good News & Updates from MMCC Global January 2023
Activities are Restarted:
MMCC is happy to announce that following the Ministry of Education's recent decision to allow girls to attend primary school, we have restarted our activities with some necessary modifications and restrictions. Our Herat center and some of our female teams are currently working to comply with the new rules and regulations. We understand the importance of considering various issues, including security and cultural, social, and religious sensitivities in all our activities. Our flexibility, creativity, and deep community integration are some of our main strengths that help us find the best solutions for the communities we serve. We are committed to continuing our work despite all challenges making a positive impact on the lives of children and youth in Afghanistan.
Difficult winter:
A wave of freezing temperatures is sweeping Afghanistan. Our youth team leaders have modified all their activities to support the children in this difficult situation. More than half of the country's 38 million people are facing hunger this winter, and nearly four million children are suffering from malnutrition, according to aid agencies.
Food Distribution:
In December our 25 youth team leaders brought small food presents to 1500 families in need in 11 provinces across Afghanistan. These provinces are Kabul, Nangarhar, Bamyan, Khost, Herat, Laghman, Balkh, Ghor, Helmand, Daikundi, and Konar. Our 25 youth team leaders, in collaboration with our management team, each identified 60 of the most in-need families through a comprehensive survey and provided them with the necessary food assistance.
As Afghanistan faces a challenging winter, we hope to reach more families with our food packages. You can support our efforts by donating or spreading the word on our fundraising page: www.globalgiving.org/projects/sharing
Flute Project:
The Flute is a youth exchange project that offers online travel to Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, and Ethiopia. The project is supported by the European Union's Erasmus Plus program and managed by MMCC in partnership with two German organizations Dignity for Children, and dieKunstBauStelle, plus MMCC-Netherlands. The project provides European youth with opportunities to learn and connect with the Global South through virtual backpacking experiences. It aims to develop a network of resilient young people who can connect digitally for productive humanitarian interaction. The Flute is also an important step for MMCC to expand its activities to more countries. In addition to continuing its work in Afghanistan, MMCC is now in process of expanding to Ethiopia to reach more children and youth with its pedagogy and skills.
Crypto Donations Now Possible:
We’re excited to announce the launch of a new fundraising campaign on Gaia Gives, a crowdfunding platform that accepts a wide variety of cryptocurrencies including all ETH, BNB, and Polygon tokens, as well as more conventional payment methods. Our goal is to raise funds for 20 circus shows in Afghanistan including capacity building of our youth teams, as well as provide them with the necessary resources such as props, equipment, and costumes.
