Building Closures, Trash Delay on Thursday, November 24 for Thanksgiving

In observance of Thanksgiving, the following building closures and service delays will be in place on Thursday, November 24:

 

  • All non-emergency Town offices will be closed and no public meetings will be held

 

  • Curbside trash/recycling collection will not be collected on Thursday, and will instead be collected on Friday--Friday's will be collected on Saturday


  • Cary Library will be closed

 

  • The Community Center will be closed

Hemali Shah Appointed as Lexington’s Next Chief Equity Officer

Town Manager Jim Malloy is excited to announce the appointment of Hemali Shah as the Town’s next Chief Equity Officer. Working in the Town Manager’s Office, Shah started in her role on October 31.  As Chief Equity Officer, Shah will champion the Town’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts.


“We are grateful to have Hemali joining our office and leading the important initiatives that will improve equity in our community,” said Town Manager Jim Malloy. “Diversity, equity, and inclusion work is an on-going effort, and we look forward to having Hemali’s expertise as we continue to approach all of our decision-making with this in mind” he added.


“I am excited to be leading the Town’s DEI efforts in this role,” said Chief Equity Officer Hemali Shah. “Although I am new to this role, I am not new to Lexington, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the community as we continue making progress towards our equity goals,” she added.

Upcoming Conservation/Nature Walks

Fall Ducks at Arlington Reservoir

Saturday November 19, 9-11:00 am


Join local birder John Andrews to explore the autumn variety of ducks and other waterfowl that may be found at the Arlington Reservoir, which straddles the Arlington/Lexington border. In addition to migrant duck species, there may be migrant sparrows to find at the pond’s border with LexFarm.


More than light rain will cancel the walk. Meet in the reservoir’s new lot on Lowell St.

Turkey Trot at Willard’s Woods & Chiesa Farm

Saturday November 26, 1-3:00 pm


Walk off some of those Thanksgiving calories with a tour of Willard’s Woods and Chiesa Farm. Meet at the Willards Woods parking lot on North St. opposite 38 North St. The route will wind through the meadows and woodland on the Willards Woods property, through the Diamond Middle School parking area, and then through Chiesa Farm before looping back to the starting point. Steady rain cancels.


Hiking poles maybe useful for some, especially if the ground is frozen.

Planning Board Developing a Zoning Amendment for Multi-Family Housing, Public Comment Encouraged

After a recent housing workshop, the Planning Board is continuing to work towards a zoning amendment proposal to permit multi-family housing.


The Planning Board is holding public work sessions on this topic at their regularly scheduled meetings, and public participation is welcome and encouraged. 


Upcoming Planning Board meetings are Wednesday evenings on December 7 and December 21 on Zoom.

Vaccine Clinics Available to Lexington Community

Flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics are available throughout the rest of the year. The clinics are open to the Lexington community and are being offered by the Lexington Public Schools.


Upcoming clinics will be on:

  • November 22
  • December 2
  • December 16

The Lexington Office of Public Health will update weekly COVID-19 case numbers each Friday. The data represented on the dashboard DOES NOT include at-home test results. The data only represents results of PCR and antigen tests verified through the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Free at-home rapid COVID-19 test kits are available at Town buildings across Lexington.


You can pick up a test at the following locations:


  • Town Office Building (Health Office) - 1625 Massachusetts Avenue
  • Fire Department - 45 Bedford Street
  • Police Department - 173 Bedford Street
  • Community Center - 39 Marrett Road
  • Visitors Center - 1875 Massachusetts Avenue
  • Public Services Building - 201 Bedford Street


Test kits are available during regular business hours (Police Dept. open 24/7) while supplies last.
