Building your Skills Inventory for a Digital Future
with CIPS CEO Greg Lane MBA, FCIPS, I.S.P. (ret)
|
|
Do you know what skills you need in the future? Do you know what skills you currently have? As the Association of IT Professionals in Canada CIPS is trying to assist by allowing all members to assess their knowledge and experience and access training to help improve both. The demand for IT talent worldwide is increasing so the entire IT community needs to work together to advance individually and collectively. That journey starts with an understanding of where “we” are and a plan to get to where we need to be. The Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) is one of the tools CIPS is employing to help with the journey. This session will help attendees understand the challenge of Digital Transformation and plan for the future.
Greg Lane has over 30 years of leadership experience in IT. Greg is currently an Executive in Residence at the University of Ottawa’s eHub program and the national CEO of CIPS, Canada’s Association of IT Professionals.

Rogers outage requires redefinition of quality
CIPS Members Blog on IT World Canada
|
|
By: Donna Lindskog, FCIPS, I.S.P. (ret.)
There has been recent progress since Rogers cell coverage was unavailable July 8 and several days afterward. The government is now requiring all cell companies to implement changes to avoid long outages like this. In the case of Rogers they will have to split their wireline from their wireless network. This will result in a higher quality of systems that will provide customers with better service.
Queen’s University professor Christian Leuprecht told Global News that it’s “wireless 101″ to have a built-in redundancy to avoid single points of failure. “The disclosure by Rogers that they’re running their wireline and wireless business on the same back end in itself is quite stunning,” he said.
Everyone should work to deliver good quality service. A definition of good ethics, such as CIPS provides, always includes the need to deliver good quality work. And customers always expect the best we have. Defining good quality in the network and IT sectors must always change as technology improves and best practices are developed to ensure various possibilities are covered.
