Let's Learn Something New Every Day

Advance staff have been working hard to incorporate learning into daily activities, both essential life skills and personal interests. Here are a few topics that individuals served have been learning about through videos, outings, hands-on activities, games and worksheets in our July Day Services program:
  • Food: learned about measurements, wrote recipes, made cake in a mug
  • Laundry: learned and practiced how to do laundry, matching/sorting game, even had a laundry Bingo!
  • Money: counted money, learned about budgeting, practiced writing checks
  • Animals/Alphabet: wrote alphabet, words you use every day, handprint animal art
  • Coffee: learned about coffee with an outing to Columbia Imports
  • Art Projects: felt flowers, piggy bank, teepees
SOME OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS THIS MONTH (from persons served):

"I liked the cupcakes." Why? "Because I got to eat it!"

"Can't name just one! I like working and movies."

"Playing games - UNO!"
Collecting Pinecones

One group is collecting pinecones around town. What do you think they are using them for?

Coffee With the Cops

Marshall MN Police Department hosted "Coffee with a Cop" and Advance individuals served and staff attended. We met a couple local police officers, asked them questions and learned more what they do in Marshall. We even got to explore the inside of their vehicle, take photos, and one of us even got to try out the handcuffs!
Community Connections

Project SEARCH Placements After Graduation

Three of the five Project SEARCH students have been hired in competitive employment and have started working!

Congratulations to these individuals and thank you to Walnut Grove School, American Surplus and Manufacturing, and Little Thunderhawks Childcare for offering the opportunities!
Let's Celebrate: A Job Placement in July

An individual utilizing Advance job placement services has been hired at Runnings Distribution Center! This individual was the first in our program to go through the Dept. of Human Services new E1MN Employment/Placement Services. Congratulations!!!
