PARTS OF THE PROCESS

SOLO EXHIBITION OF WORKS BY SHANNY BROOKE

Taking us on her emotional journey, painter Shanny Brooke explores the creative steps that emerge when processing the loss of a loved one.

Sometimes the emotions come quickly. Sometimes we only experience them after stripping away the narrative and re-exploring our relationships.

This selection of paintings is an intimate glimpse into this artist’s insightful journey towards healing as she allowed her canvas and paint to do the speaking for her – revealing that art continues to be her trusted voice..

The exhibit will run in our Cottage Gallery through July 15th with viewings Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm.

Sound Journey at Elk Rapids Yoga Flow

Thursday, July 6, 2023

6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

What is a Sound Journey?

Think of it as an experience where sound can be used to transport you to a dream-like state of vibrational healing. (Sounds pretty blissful, doesn't it?)

With the use of instruments like chakra & alchemy crystal singing bowls, steel tongue drum, tuning forks, and percussive instruments, the sound journey will quiet your mind as the vibrations resonate in your body further blurring the boundaries of being awake and being asleep.

Think of it as a full-body sound massage where you'll be in deep rest, cleansing, healing, and harmonizing on all levels. This is a wonderful experience both physically and mentally.

Wear comfortable clothing and bring your favorite pillow or blanket if desired.

These classes fill up quickly so don’t wait to sign up early!

Blooms & Birds: Wildflower Walk

Every Tuesday, 10:00 am (2 hrs), Free but donations appreciated

Go for a relaxing stroll on the trails with GRNA docents Julie Hurd and Phil Jarvi each week to find and identify the beautiful and unique wildflowers at Grass River. Along the way, we will listen and look for the birds that call Grass River home. Every Tuesday at 10 am.

Thursday, June 22, 1:00 pm (2 hrs), $10 per person

Art on Thursdays: Painting in Nature

Everywhere we look, here at Grass River Natural Area, we see patterns.   They are the spots on a fawn's back, the scales on snakes and fish, and the lacy fronds of a fern. Using a variety of watercolor media, we will create paintings that capture the beauty of natural patterns.  Materials are provided, but you may bring your own. On select Thursdays this summer, join a naturalist at 1 pm for a reoccurring nature art program! We will explore painting, sketching, journaling, clay, and more!

Register at: https://www.grassriver.org/classes-and-programs.html

Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Elk Rapids is holding a raffle this summer. The first prize is a quarter of a processed, packaged, and frozen cow. The second and third prizes are a half-frozen, processed, and packaged hog. The raffle drawing will take place on August 13 at Sacred Heart after the 10 am mass.

The raffle is being hosted by Sacred Heart's Outreach Committee, which focuses on building community at the parish. The proceeds from ticket sales will go toward Sacred Heart's effort to build a new church that honors the parish's history while providing much-needed facility updates.

"To me, what hits home is that we need to build for the future, period. That's why I support the efforts to build a new church," shares John Mischel, chair of the Outreach Committee. "I have an 18-year-old daughter. I want her to have a place to worship in Elk Rapids. I feel strongly about serving the people here."

John Mischel has been a member of Sacred Heart for 28 years.

"As long as I have vitality and energy, I'm going to use my time, talent, and treasure to serve my church and my community," Mischel said.

Raffle tickets are available now for $10 by emailing johnmmischel@gmail.com.
