Say It With Flowers! CityScape Spreads Hope

and Positivity to Downtown Establishments

This July, CityScape staff delivered beautiful bouquets to downtown restaurants and bars to spread some cheer. We wanted to deliver a token of hope and appreciation and let these vital businesses know how much we value their hard work and dedication. Our downtown restaurants are an invaluable asset, and we support their continuing operation in downtown Youngstown. CityScape’s bouquets were just a small, positive reminder that these fellow community members and their businesses are essential to downtown, the city, and the region. We will continue to support one another as we move forward together.

Youngstown CityScape provided flowers for Oh Wow’s “Science of Brewing” event on Friday, August 9th and supplied centerpieces for the Rotary Club of Youngstown’s “In Our Nature” event at the D.D. Davis Center, Fellows Riverside Gardens on Sunday, August 11th.

Streetscape 2024!

Youngstown CityScape and Nearly 1,000 Volunteers

Forge Ahead with Beautifying City

Thank you to everyone involved in CityScape’s 27th annual Planting Day, “Streetscape – Greenery and Good Vibes!” This year’s impactful event took place on Saturday, June 1st in downtown Youngstown, despite the Realty Tower explosion just days earlier that left sections of Central Square inaccessible.

From the start, this year’s Planting Day posed hurdles. In 2024, CityScape took on the task of planting nearly six times the amount of square foot green space downtown created by the BUILD grant improvements. We knew this Planting Day was going to be “all hand on deck!” We also knew that each year, community support comes through. Our stakeholders are committed to Streetscape Day because of the difference the work makes in how downtown looks and feels. Year after year, our planting and clean-up make people feel positive about our city.

Circumstances at Realty Tower following the May 28 explosion made us wonder –

Hot Fun in the Summertime

Oh, sweet summertime! CityScape joined with vendors, artists, and other non-profits to enjoy the sunny weather at this year’s Summer Festival of the Arts. We offered beautiful Farmhouse Blooms Seasonal Bouquets to brighten the day. We sold our wonderful “Youngstown Skyline” and “Holiday” Note Cards!

We ran our popular “Win a Fairy Garden Kit!” drawing, where dozens of hopeful contestants filled out entry cards in hopes of winning this year’s prizes!

Congratulation to this year’s lucky Fairy Garden winner Abbagail Grimes.

Don't Blink

Summer is Almost Over!

It’s time to start getting your garden and yard ready for the fall. Fall is the time to begin cutting back those spent perennials. You can save the seeds or spread them around on the ground to promote spring volunteer plants (or feed the birds!).

It’s also time to take note of what plants did well for you this year. If something did not thrive, what was the reason? Was it the weather? Pests? Animals? Or something else? Sometimes, perennials need to be moved to a new location or divided to do their best.
