Honored to Help Keep Members Safe with PPOA Steer Clear Program
January 1: Sunday marked the final day of PPOA's 2022 "Steer Clear" holiday free ride program. Since its inception five years ago, Steer Clear has helped members make safe, responsible decisions while celebrating and socializing during the holidays.
COVID-19 Legal Meeting
January 3: PPOA reps hosted their weekly teleconference to discuss the continued impact of COVID-19 on members of this Association. Meeting participants included President Nancy Escobedo, Executive Director Wayne Quint Jr., Senior Labor Rep. Venise Wallace, Intake Rep. Kevin Thompson and PPOA legal counsel.

Legislative Committee Meeting
January 4: The PPOA Legislative Committee hosted a teleconference with our full-time Sacramento legislative representatives — Lang, Hansen, Giroux and Kidane — to engage in the monthly discussion about legislation that impacts or could potentially impact PPOA members and public safety employees statewide. For perspective, the California Assembly and Senate collectively introduced more than 2,000 bills in the most recent legislative session.

Meeting participants from PPOA included President Escobedo, 1st Vice President Jay Chapman, Board Member Gerry Garcia, Legislative Consultant Art Reddy and Executive Director Quint.

PPOA's commitment to impactful legislative strategies stretches back to the 1960s and has significantly improved the rights and benefits of generations of PPOA members. Meet and Confer re: Possible Schedule Change at IRC
January 5: PPOA took part in a Meet and Confer with LASD executives to discuss a possible schedule change at the Inmate Reception Center. President Escobedo, Executive Director Quint, Sr. Labor Representative Venise Wallace, Intake Representative Kevin Thompson and Legal Counsel Jim Cunningham represented PPOA at this meeting.
PPOA Calendar Book and Annual Report Hit Mailboxes
PPOA's 2023 Calendar and Benefits Book, along with the 2022 Annual Report, arrived in mailboxes this week. The Calendar Book is designed to give PPOA members a preview of the events planned for the year ahead as well as an overview of the benefits and privileges to which they are entitled. The Annual Report provides an informative review of events that impacted PPOA members in 2022.

Fraternal Order of Police News Update
PPOA members have long benefitted from our longtime affiliation with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the world's largest organization of law enforcement officers, with more than 364,000 members in more than 2,100 lodges nationwide. An important note regarding FOP membership for retired PPOA members: Once a sworn PPOA member retires, and he/she wishes to reactivate their FOP member/benefits, the following steps must be taken:
