Students of the Month for April

Anne and Carol Battershell

Tell Us About You. The Battershell sisters grew up in Northeastern Ohio but moved around extensively after college. Anne and Carol both lived in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, London, Brussels and Chicago. Carol continued to move around and also lived in London again, Washington DC, and Denver. They both eventually moved back to Ohio to live close to the rest of their family - Anne moved to Columbus in 2009 when their niece Catey was born; Carol in 2018. Living close to their family was a great choice. Anne was here to help out when their Mom was ill and passed from cancer. They had many more good years with their Dad. While he passed earlier this year, they still have their awesome sister Mary, a niece and nephew, and nearby cousins.

How Did You Get Started In Your Yoga Practice & How Does It Help You? Carol tried yoga off and on for decades but did not find a studio home or become consistent with her practice until she retired. She sees now how much she could have benefited from a consistent practice to help manage stress while she was working full time. Anne had some off-putting experiences with teachers pointing out her lack of ability in a public and humiliating way; this kept her away from trying yoga again for many years. Yoga helps us both in so many ways- flexibility, strength, calmness, balance, fellowship.

What keeps you motivated to stay consistent with your yoga practice? We came originally because we saw Balancing Owl offered both flow and deep release yoga classes. We stay for the wonderful community of fellow students who have become new friends plus the kind and helpful teachers.

What do you love about the Balancing Owl community? Balancing Owl provides a balance of meeting you where you are in your practice and wanting to challenge yourself more.
