Greetings!
I hope this year is off to a great start for you!
This week and next, our spring Conversation Groups begin, with 15 groups running in 13 different communities at various times in public spaces. In total, 165 learners have enrolled this semester, with an additional 20 learners on waitlists for openings.
Volunteers are needed to help us meet the need for group programs for local learners.
Today, 76 learners are on our waitlist for One-to-One Tutoring. These learners will wait between 9 -12 months to be matched with a volunteer tutor. They may wait even longer if we do not have a volunteer able to meet with them in their community and on their schedule.
Volunteers are needed to help us provide individual instruction to local learners who have no other options for high-quality English instruction.
So many wonderful local volunteers served with us during these past 3 years, despite the challenges of online instruction and the uncertainties caused by the pandemic. They carried us through uncharted waters and they are our heroes. Many are now taking a very well-deserved break.
I invite you to consider volunteer service, to support and honor the commitment
of all EAL volunteers, and to help your immigrant neighbors and friends
receive the help and support they need.
This coming year, we will be hosting a number of community events to help us engage with those interested in volunteer service, as well as local learners who could benefit from their work.
Save the Date for our Maynard Community Event
and other activities to be announced soon!
Read on for an exciting program announcement, as well as another Save the Date for your event calendar!
Thank you for your continued interest and support of English At Large.
Best regards,
Maureen
