Happy Thanksgiving Slim People!

I've become addicted to Thanksgiving leftovers straight out of the fridge.

It's hard to quit cold turkey.

Slim People!

I give thanks for you good-looking above-average people with excellent taste in music. Thank you for being so…Slimsational!

And big thanks to all who came out to the CREER benefit. We done good!

Good News in Slim Land!

The Marlboro Men screenplay I wrote? It just made the quarterfinals of the Emerging Comedy Screenplay contest.

That's the third award this screenplay has won.

But who's counting?

If it goes on to win the finals, and I get a million dollar advance, I won't forget the Slim People.

You'll never hear from me again, but I won't forget you!

JFK. Just Effing Kidding!

When Marlboro Men hits big, you can come live with me at Slim's Shady Trailer Park.

Hope you like goats! And outdoor plumbing...

The screenplay is available on the slimman.com website.

More Good News!

The 5@5? That somewhat almost popular Facebook LIVE stream show?

It's back! That's right, for one show only...

Thank goodness!

This special edition of 5@5 will be a benefit for Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. I volunteered there for years.

I usually do a benefit for MWPH at La Scala Ristorante when I'm back east for our annual Rams Head Slim Christmas show. But things didn't work out this year. Bah! Humbug!

So I'm doing a 5@5 Slim Christmas show at Vicky's on Tuesday, December 13th, on Facebook LIVE.

https://www.facebook.com/slimmanicotti

Show starts at 5 PM PT and ends at 5:45.

45 minutes of harmonious holiday hits!

I'll put a "DONATE" link that goes directly to MWPH, and hopefully we can raise some dough for some kids who could really use a helping hand.

On Tuesday, December 20th, I'm doing a cookbook signing at Vicky's. Joy to the World!

A signed Slim Man Cooks Volume 2 cookbook would make a great stocking stuffer for Grandma.

Sure, she'd have to have really really big stockings, but she'd love it!

I'll be signing Slim Man Cooks Volume 2 from 4 to 6 PM.

And then the Slim Man Band plays til 9:30!

It's Two for One TUESDAY!

I'm doing a cooking class on Friday, January 20th at Kitchen Kitchen in Indian Wells. Only 12 seats available!

Tickets go on sale December 3rd.

All details on all upcoming events are down below.

Would it kill ya to come out and say hello?

It would be great to see ya!

And finally! If you want to order the Slim Man Cooks Volume 2 cookbook online, here's the link.

Slim Man Cooks Volume 2

It's got lots of great recipes. And funny stories. And cooking videos for every recipe!

Shipping is FREE! And it comes with a FREE CD. You can pick either a Slim Christmas CD or a good ol' Slim Man CD.

Now that's what I call Slim Pickins!

AND NOW THE REAL NEW REAL NEWS FROM SLIM'S SHADY TRAILER PARK

The following is a true story about my trip from Palm Springs to Wisconsin for a couple Slim Gigs.

I try to keep these things to 1,000 words or less, but there are lots of pictures.

I moved to downtown Palm Springs recently. Right off the main drag.

One Sunday I woke up to a big commotion. I heard music playing, marching bands marching, people screaming and shouting.

I followed the noise as I walked to Palm Canyon Drive, a block away. The Gay Pride Parade was parading down the street.

First thing I saw was a woman in the back of a pickup truck, waving a flag and singing. The pickup was towing a flatbed U-Haul trailer trimmed in what looked like cotton candy and filled with women dressed in pink.

The woman in the truck was shouting into a microphone, “Lesbians in a U-Haul!"

Lesbians in a U-Haul

Not sure if that was the name of the song or the band or part of a new U-Haul ad campaign.

No matter what it was, those ladies were having a good time.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Slim Man!

I left my new 'hood a few days later and started my trek to Antigo, Wisconsin.

First stop was in Phoenix. I had a five-hour layover, so I bought a day pass at one of the airline clubs.

$59.

I walked in around 8 AM. It was a-so nice!

They had a buffet breakfast, everything from fruit and oatmeal and eggs, to lox and bagels and cream cheese.

They had all kinds of exotic coffees. I was guzzling cappuccinos and wolfing down waffles. After four hours of gluttony, they cleared off the breakfast buffet.

And brought out lunch!

Tacos, soups, salads, it was so good I was hoping my plane would be delayed so I could stay for dinner!

But both flights were on time.  I flew to Chicago and then to Wausau. I rolled into the hotel in Antigo around 11 PM.

The next day I had a gig at the Hoffman House, a hotel recently remodeled to look just like it did back in the early 1900s.

The pressed tin ceiling, the original phone booth, the chandeliers and stained glass were all recently renovated. It was charming.

I sang Frank, Dino, and Nat songs for about 40 people in the beautifully restored antique bar.

After the show, lots of folks went to a bar down the street called “Animals.”

Going to a bar called “Animals” after a show didn’t seem like a great idea, especially because the next morning I had an interview at a radio station…

At 7:00 AM!

The interview went well, I pumped up the Slim Man/Hip Pocket show that night even though it was sold-out. The concert was at a place in Antigo called Northstar.

Did I mention it was SOLD-OUT?

Sure, it may have been because there was FREE BEER. Seriously. Suds were FREE.

But I’d like to think the music had something to do with it!

Plus, it was a benefit for United Way. A benefit with FREE beer. Gotta love those Cheeseheads!

I opened the show singing the Star-Spangled Banner.  It was Veterans Day, and I thought it would be a nice acknowledgement. Then I sang some Rat Pack songs.

And then?

I brought up some members of Hip Pocket to jam on some Slim Songs. I gotta tell ya, it was thrilling to have a four-piece horn section play on songs like “Valerie” and “Kiss.”

They were Show Stoppas!

I left the stage and then the rest of Hip Pocket came on. They're a nine-piece horn band that does Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Huey Lewis and the News--anything with horns!

They’re tighter than a pair of yoga pants.

I was at a table hanging out with my friend Peace Man who lives in nearby Marshfield. We were listening to the group, and I gotta tell ya, we both agreed...

Hip Pocket is one beastly band! The whole place was movin' and groovin'.

The next day Peace Man and I went to Joe Fittante’s taxidermy shop.

Joe sings and plays keyboards in Hip Pocket. But his day job is taxidermy, mostly fish replicas. And most of those fish are muskies.

Muskellunge.

Huh?

That's the technical name for a musky. It's one big, ugly, mean-looking fish. Folks who fish for muskies are somewhat…fanatical. There's even a magazine dedicated just to Musky fishing.

Who knew?

Fisher folks who catch these gruesome-looking creatures take photos and then release the fish. That's right. They release them.

Then they send the photos to Joe who makes replicas--resin models that look amazingly realistic, right down to the teeth and gills.

I didn’t think making musky models could be a full-time business, but Joe has six employees and is booked months in advance.

Joe's pride and joy is his remarkable replica of a rare albino musky.

Albino Musky.

Wasn't that the name of a band in the 1960s?

After that, Peace Man and I hoofed it to a horse ranch. We’d been invited by his friend Darla, who runs the 70-horse riding stable.

I was gonna saddle up and ride, but it was snowing, the wind was blowing, and it was in the 20s. I hadn’t dressed for the occasion.

If I had known, I would have packed my fur chaps. And coonskin cap!

The next day, Peace Man and I drove to Green Bay for the Packers/Cowboys football game. It was freezing cold!

Once again, I hadn’t dressed for the occasion.

Most people around us were dressed like they were ready to start the Iditarod. All I had on was a leather jacket and jeans.

Peace Man and I stood the whole time. So did almost everyone else.  Why?

Because at Lambeau Field you sit on metal benches. And those benches were really cold.

Really cold!

At halftime, I looked like Jack Nicholson at the end of The Shining. I had icicles hanging off my eyebrows. So we decided to leave.

Peace Man and I walked back to his Jeep, tuned in the Packer game on the radio, and turned the heat on full blast. It was blowing so hot I thought my socks were gonna catch fire.

When I got to my hotel room I took a hot shower for so long, I think the water levels at Lake Michigan went down a couple inches.

When I left the next morning it was 17 degrees and gray. When I landed in Palm Springs, it was 72 and sunny.

I thought maybe the "Lesbians in a U-Haul" float might come parading by so I could hop on and catch a ride downtown.

Ubers are really expensive!

Thanks to all the Cheeseheads who came out to the Slim Shows. We had a blast!

And thanks to the promoter, Cheesehead Shorty, for making it all happen.

We raised a lot of money for United Way, and we had fun doing it.

It was lovely!

It's all about love, Slim People.

Who loves ya?

Uncle Slimmy

PS: Here's a YouTube video for one of my favorite recipes, roasted beets with goat cheese and chives. She's a-so nice!
