Generous Gift Upgrades Lifesaving CPR Training Equipment

Mr. & Mrs. Willams with Dr. Judith Rex reviewing new CPR equipment

The 2024 NCC Impact Report shares the story of Fred and Carol Williams. Seven years ago, Carol was sitting on her couch when she experienced a medical emergency. After hearing a strange gasping sound coming from their living room, Fred found Carol suffering sudden cardiac arrest, drew upon his CPR training from nearly two decades prior and began administering CPR. Once Carol started breathing again, Fred called 911 and waited for emergency personnel to arrive. Fred's quick response and training saved her life.

When the couple recently learned that the College needed to update their CPR training simulators, they answered the call and thanks to their generosity, the College was able to purchase eight Little Anne Quality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Manikins. The new equipment—manikins and electronic feedback devices—allows students to see if they are succeeding in saving a life and provides clear recommendations for improvement. The Williamses also funded 24 SkillsGuides, which provide the instructor with live feedback to measure and track student progress.

Recently the mannikins were used during a contracted training for Moravian Village of Bethlehem employees. They were kind enough to allow us to film the training so we could illustrate the new equipment in action. View the training video below.

According to the American Heart Association, bystander CPR can double to triple the 10% survival rate for out of hospital cardiac arrest. NCC offers open enrollment CPR training classes and on-site or on-campus customized training for organizations.
