Please note that the plan identifies water quality as its top priority. This is the direct result of local residents from CIDNA, Kenwood and East Isles neighborhood associations who worked to ensure that the plan would address deteriorating water quality of Cedar Lake, which is now categorized as eutrophic. (That condition produced the toxic blue-green algae that closed down Cedar Beach for several days last year). Environmental preservation is important to CIDNA; it is named in its mission, vision and statement of values.

You can learn more about the current condition of Cedar Lake in the Barr report commissioned by the Park Board here.

Board Report: At its January meeting, the CIDNA board discussed

  • Changes to Minnetonka Boulevard,
  • How to reduce pollution of Lake of the Isles by the storm sewer system.
  • Problems arising from use of Burnham woods as an off-leash dog park,
  • How to support Ukrainian refugees,
  • Hennepin County’s decision to discontinue broadcasting the public comment period at its board meetings.

It also voted to write Mayor Frey asking for a SWLRT safety evacuation drill.

Celebrate Black History Month

February is Black History Month in the United States. It was first proposed in 1969 by Black educators and students at Kent State University, and recognized in 1976 during the celebration of the United States Bicentennial by President Gerald Ford.

The Black historian Carter Woodson wrote, "If a race has no history, it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated." Click here to find out how to celebrate and learn about Black history in Minneapolis.

Public Works has announced winter parking restrictions.

Vehicles may not be parked on the even number side of non-snow emergency routes until April 1. Some streets may also be posted with additional signage that the public should comply with. Vehicles that are parked on the even side of non-Snow Emergency routes, or otherwise posted routes, will be subject to ticket and tow.
