NLAI Ministry Update | May 2023

Dear Friends,

Spring has sprung in the majority of the U.S., which means the landscape is transforming from colorless to colorful, and from winter death to life. And, of course, we just celebrated the remembrance of our Savior’s death and resurrection which has overcome sin and death and transformed us from God’s enemies to his children. I love this time of year!

The project I am highlighting this month is focused on taking another step to transform New Life Children’s Home, NLAI’s largest ministry, from being totally reliant on donations toward greater self-sustainability. In 2021, we were able to install solar panels on the roofs of the home units and other buildings. So far, this has resulted in a 30% reduction of our electric bill! In a country where the cost of electricity per kilowatt hour is higher than in the US, this savings is significant.

As we move more toward self-sustainability, our next step is the Aquaponics Project.

There are three primary reasons we feel led to start this program:

  1. Not only will this program provide fish as an additional source of protein for the children, but it will also provide homegrown, fresh vegetables and spices to feed our kids with the surplus available to sell to create an additional revenue stream.
  2. In addition, we plan to incorporate the program into our entire school, including our special education program. Our dream is to start the first Aquaponics high school degree program! This will train young people to seek employment and further advance this new technology in Guatemala, a country with one of the highest chronic infant malnourishment rates in the world.
  3. Finally, we plan to use our aquaponics facility as a training center for people throughout Latin America. Our dream is to teach and train groups of people to start their own aquaponics projects in order to provide food for other organizations or whole communities. Many who come will be non-believers and we are excited to have the opportunity to share the gospel with them and begin discipling them during their time of training here.

Can you sense my excitement? I invite you to click on the button above to view a PDF overview of the entire project. Please pray with us that God will provide the remaining funds for building and launching the program. Would you pray and ask God if He would have you give? If the answer is "Yes!", you can send a check to NLAI, PO Box 903, Stafford, TX 77497, or click here to give online and select "NLCH Building Projects" and then "Aquaponics Project."

Blessings,
