December Notes
November was a good month for Democracy especially here in Michigan. Many thanks
to all of you, poll workers, election observers and Voter Guide distributors, who helped get
out the vote and who ensured that the system worked well for all citizens. Now the League
will spend a bit of time enjoying the Holiday season before deciding what issues need to be
studied and how best to continue supporting Making Democracy Work.
LWVBCC celebrated our League with a Holiday Party on Sunday, December 4, at the
Berrien Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Stevensville from 4-7PM. About 40 members and friends celebrated and visited. We were pleased to see so many of you attending and visiting to get reacquainted and enjoy each other’s company.
A major highlight of the festivities was a drawing for a $100 gift certificate provided by our friends at the beautiful New Buffalo "Terrace Room" restaurant. one of the very few advertisers chosen to be in this newsletter. At the Terrace Room, you will enjoy authentic Italian cuisine beautiful surroundings, and more. Here is the marvelous Terrace Room website. What a treat! The Terrace Room is the Harbor Grand Hotel's waterfront restaurant where you can relax and enjoy dinner and drinks -- locally-sourced rustic Italian fare, handmade pasta, and fine wine every day at 5pm. Our new friend Tina Pawlak, whom we met through our work association with the Holland League, took home the gift certificate!
Please visit and tell the Terrace Room staff you saw information about them in the League of Women Voters of Berrien and Cass Counties newsletter.
At this moment, the board is working on a St. Joe luncheon or early evening meeting in January to discuss the mid-terms and civic education. Look for an announcement in your inbox when the details are finalized. Our January 10 board meeting will focus on planning more meetings on topics like
voter turnout, climate change, plastic pollution and the electoral college. Email your ideas to me.
Two things to think about for the coming months: 1) attend city, village or township commission meetings to stay in touch with your neighbors and learn what is important to our voters, 2) see the announcement below. I think the “Lessons Learned” video would be very interesting.
