This presentation is a video tour of the Tillamook sawmill. The Tillamook sawmill is the Stimson’s highest technology sawmill with the highest efficiency for converting trees into lumber. The logs are measured by laser scanners, the cutting solutions are decided with computer optimization, and the cutting tools set with high-speed automation. The tour walks through the mill with stops at each machine center to observe each process.
Stimson is a family owned, Portland Oregon based forest products company. Stimson has six sawmills and 500,000+ acres of forest land in the Pacific Northwest with five sawmills producing stud size lumber (i.e., 2x4 and 2x6). One sawmill produces both custom timbers and dimension size lumber.
