Dear Parents and Guardians,
From the Board:
The Board of Ashley River Classical Academy regrets to inform our community that due to unforeseen issues with the acquisition of our proposed school site, it has become unfeasible to move forward with the property acquisition at this time, or to open the school in 2025 as originally planned.
In October 2024, a purchase agreement was signed with the site owner. That owner committed in the agreement to deliver an unoccupied site by this summer. The current tenant also announced that it was moving locations by the summer. We therefore announced our location and began spending significant amounts of money, time, and energy preparing for a fall 2025 opening. Earlier this year, the seller changed its mind about delivering an unoccupied site. It stated publicly that it intended to let the tenant stay in that facility for at least another year. A few days ago, the tenant announced that it intends to stay in the facility for another two years. A long and expensive legal battle with both parties would only prolong the uncertainty for staff we have already hired and for families that have already enrolled.
We realize how disappointing this is to the many families who had signed up to join our school, but we remain committed to bringing a classical charter school to the Charleston area, and we are already investigating potential new site sites for our school. We will continue our work, and we’ll make our best efforts to bring a classical charter school to life here in 2026.
Sincerely,
Ashley River Classical Planning Committee

From the Head School:
It is with a heavy heart and deep disappointment and heartfelt regret that I write to inform you that Ashley River Classical Academy will not be opening its doors this fall as we had originally planned. This journey has been filled with hard work, hope, and a shared vision for a school that would offer a rich and meaningful classical education to the children of our community. While we have made significant progress and are deeply grateful for the enthusiasm and support that we’ve received from families like yours, we encountered unforeseen challenges that prevent us from opening at this time.
Please know that this outcome is not what we envisioned or worked toward. We had every intention of welcoming students this fall and building something extraordinary together. This pause is a difficult but necessary step as we reevaluate the best path forward. We are incredibly thankful for your trust, your interest, and the time you’ve invested in learning about our mission. While this chapter is not unfolding as we hoped, we remain committed to the ideals that brought us together in the first place: educational excellence, character formation, and community partnership.
If you have any questions or would like to speak with me directly, please do not hesitate to reach out or contact the board directly at board@ashleyriverclassical.org.
In Partnership,
Alexandria Spry
