There is so much going on this month and into spring that the Vestry agenda had two entries for “All the upcoming stuff”! This inadvertent, humorous repetition does convey that there are a multitude of activities at Saint Paul’s in which we can engage with each other and with our faith. We re-opened the Tyler Hall kitchen in fine style, cooking up a mess of flapjacks for the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner. This newly renovated space was made possible in part by gifts to the memory of Rebecca Clark Rice, and we blessed the space remembering her gifts to our shared church life. This coming weekend we will host the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Diocese of Georgia, which was established here at Saint Paul’s in February 1823. Bishop Logue and other visitors from across the Diocese will be here Saturday February 25 to celebrate our history and to give thanks for the blessings our churches have received. Please join this service at 2:00. The Bishop will then celebrate the Eucharist with us on Sunday the 26th and confirm and receive 12 adults and 7 youth into the life of the Episcopal Church. And then, oh by the way, we head into Lent, after two Ash Wednesday services, to prepare for the resurrection of our Lord 40 days hence.
The Vestry approved a proposal from the Finance Committee for changes to our accounting procedures that will help us be better stewards of our finances and, perhaps almost as important, better stewards of our administrative and finance staff. We will be moving to cloud-based software that interfaces better across programs and we will gain needed efficiencies by using this current technology.
I want to personally acknowledge the ministry of the Hospitality Committee, led by Eric Friedman. He and his team work tirelessly in preparing food at numerous events. He just makes it happen, and it appears to happen so easily that we run the risk of taking this important component of our social lives for granted. He was “slinging hash” on Shrove Tuesday with his usual cheerful demeanor and probably already thinking about the next event. Please thank Eric for the work he and his team do and ask him how you can join in on the fun.

Diocese of Georgia Bicentennial Eucharist
Saturday, February 25, 2 PM
|
The Diocese of Georgia will celebrate the Bicentennial of its founding at Saint Paul’s with a Eucharist at 2 PM followed by a reception in the River Room. The Rt. Rev. Robert C. Wright, Bishop of Atlanta, will join Bishop Logue in the celebration and will offer the sermon.
In February 1823, the three Episcopal congregations in Georgia–Christ Church in Savannah, Saint Paul’s in Augusta, and Christ Church Frederica on St. Simons Island–sent delegates to the first convention of what became the Protestant Episcopal Church in the State of Georgia. The Diocese of Georgia held a Centennial Celebration in 1923 with a Eucharist at Saint Paul’s in Augusta.
