Anchors Away! Get Ready for Launch!

We are gearing up to celebrate the March Launch of our new exhibit to the public! Your Maritime Center is busy preparing our facility for our community.

Thank you to Sarah Q. of Hanna Berry Furnishings for hand-painting the mural on our roll up door!

THANK YOU TO OUR VALUED GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS! Stationed on the Coast Guard ice breaker cutters at Bollinger Shipyard,

this fantastic group of Coast Guard men and women helped move exhibits and acclimate artifacts to propel our Maritime Center to the next level of our March debut!

400-year-old Live Oak gets prepped for exhibition!

Dennis Bopp, U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla Vice Commander, also a member of our Maritime Community Council, and Ms. Kim Keenum, US Coast Guard, oversee Tuesday's volunteer efforts!

Our Young Mariner's Program continued this past week! In honor of Valentine's Day, the kids learned about sailors Valentines, and had the opportunity to make their own. Take a look at their creations below!

Model Boat Contest

In preparation for our community Launch, please let your students know they may participate in our "Float Your Boat" Contest!

Now through Monday, March 13th, the Mississippi Shipbuilding and Maritime Center is accepting model boat art to help CELEBRATE our community Launch, and we would love to showcase your students' creations!

All school ages may participate:

Division I - Kindergarten-4th grade

Division II - 5th-8th grade

Division III - 9th-12th grade

Help us celebrate! -- Float Your Boat Requirements:

Create a model boat, no more then 3 x 3, out of recycled materials.
Include a short narrative explaining the design for the boat.
Label entry with the students' name, grade, teacher's name, school name, and a contact number.

Boat entries may be dropped off at:

No later than Monday, March 13, at 5pm!

We accept donations Tuesdays-Thursdays from 10am-5pm.

All entries will be on display at the Mississippi Shipbuilding and Maritime Center during our Launch week festivities.

Winners in each division will be notified and prizes awarded!
