Big Island Aquaculture oyster farm is located on a body of water called Monday Creek in Hayes. Daniel and his parents moved there when he was a young boy and he quickly fell in love with the area and the water. Daniels interest in oyster farming peaked when he was working with a sturgeon researcher at VIMS who was growing oysters as a hobby. A marine scientist was urging Daniel and his parents to start growing oysters for the wonderful things they do for the environment.

It wasn’t difficult for Daniel to convince his parents to join him. His Dad, Bruce, has been involved with the environment and aquaculture for many years. Daniel, along with his Mom and Dad started Big Island Aquaculture about 10 years ago.

Daniel’s dream of having a career working with oysters while at the same time contributing to the health of the environment and the Chesapeake Bay has been a dream come true.

The Mustard Seed Natural Market is family owned and independently operated. Owners, Jim and Katie along with their children, hope to grow the market into a destination for the discriminating food shopper and health conscious consumer, all the while offering excellent customer service, value and that old fashioned country store experience.

You can find them in the White Marsh Shopping Center located at 4858 George Washington Memorial Hwy.

A spokesperson for Langley Federal Credit Union said the company expects to break ground on its new Gloucester location by the end of March.

Construction is expected to take at least nine months, and once it is completed, the current branch on the Middle Peninsula will close.

The new branch will be located off of Zandler Way near the River Bend Apartments in the middle part of the county.

Old 17 Print Co moved into their store front about a year ago. They are located at 1753 George Washington Memorial Highway in Hayes.

Since moving into the storefront shop, they have filled it with new equipment to help make the business a "one stop shop" in Hampton Roads. They offer a list of services from graphic design, large format printing, decals, all apparel from embroidery to screen printing, laser engraving, advertisement and more!

There are no set hours for the workshop, but they do accept appointments by email to old17printco@gmail.com

SMALL BUSINESS INCENTIVES

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors, Economic Development Authority and Economic Development Department are dedicated to promoting and improving the economic health and quality of life in Gloucester. These incentive programs are here to support, promote and encourage small businesses by providing assistance with interior and exterior improvements, advertising and website design work.

Property Improvement: Assistance with renovations and build-out for new and expanding businesses. Projects covered in this incentive include new floors, ceiling tiles, windows, doors, painting and other interior improvements. If you are considering applying for this grant, please contact our office to confirm that the project is eligible before applying.

Facade Improvement: This program is designed to provide assistance to property or business owners for exterior façade improvements, new signage or landscaping. If you are considering applying for this grant, please contact our office to confirm that the project is eligible before applying.

Co-op Advertising Grant: This program supports advertising and promotional activities.

E-Commerce Matching Grant Program: Offers aid with new website design and development.

All businesses applying for Economic Development Incentives will need to submit a completed and signed IRS form W9.
