Hunter's Creek Middle School Community Brief Monday, September 23, 2024
Dear Mark,
Thank you to all our parents/guardians who joined our Open House on Tuesday, September 17th. We hope you had a great visit with your student’s or students’ teachers and learned about the curriculum and rigorous academic activities that your student engages in. We love the support and involvement of our community!
Hunter's Creek Middle is excited to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! I encourage everyone, including parents, to participate with us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
Please remember to check your student’s progress report which has been available since Wednesday for you to view through the Parent Portal Access. The first quarter is ending in three weeks on Friday, October 11th. I ask parents to check grades and make sure that there are no missing assignments. Students need to adhere to due dates to turn in all assignments on time.
Lastly, our wonderful PTSA Board continues with the Papa John’s fundraiser until September 27th. HCMS PTSA has an online store to make it easier to join. It is a one stop shop! You can purchase your membership, beautifully custom-designed HCMS T-shirts for you and your student, and HCMS car magnets or other HCMS apparel. Support HCMS and join today! Here's the link for memberships and store: https://hunterscreekms.memberhub.com/store
Thank you for your continued support.

Beanstack Reading Fundraiser
Hunter’s Creek Middle School readathon coming October 1st!
We are so excited to announce our upcoming readathon, Read to Raise, to help raise money for literacy events and incentives! We're challenging our community to read and raise $5,000 from October 1st to October 31st. The more you and your student read and raise, the closer we'll get to our goal!
Participating is simple. When you and your student log into Beanstack starting October 1st, you'll be able to see and share their donation page with your family and friends and log all the reading you do at home. Any donations contributed through their individual page will help your student earn badges and rewards. (There will be a school donation page as well–that link will be shared once the fundraiser is live!) And donors can leave messages and notes to encourage your student's reading and raising!
If each student is able to find 3 donors to give $10, we'll hit our goal in no time! We'll be sending reminder messages and progress updates during Read to Raise, and we hope to see lots of sharing and reading starting on October 1st.
Happy reading!

Soccer Match Recaps through Sept. 18th
August 28th
Congratulations to the HCMS boys soccer team, led by head coach Anthony D’orsa, on their first win of the young season! The Eagles traveled to Meadow Woods for a weather-delayed game against the Stallions. The score remained tied at nil until two minutes left in regulation, when 8th grader Esteban Leon settled the ball 20 yards out in front of the Meadow Woods goal. Esteban calmly deposited the ball into the upper right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead that HCMS would not relinquish.
September 11th
The HCMS soccer teams had a tough afternoon at Lake Nona MS, dropping both games to the Knights, 4-0 (boys) and 8-0 (girls).
September 12th
The HCMS soccer teams lost both games at Innovation MS on Thursday afternoon, 2-0 (boys) and 8-0 (girls).

Coach Anthony D’orsa’s boys soccer team went on a scoring spree on Monday afternoon, beating the Walker Vikings 6-0. The HCMS boys evened their record at 2-2 on the season with three games to play. Three goals were scored in the first half by the Eagles, two by 8th grader Juan Melendez, and the other by 6th grader Samuel Jimenez. In the second half, the Eagles erupted for three more goals. 8th graders Joao De Almeida and Rejan Namani scored their first goals of the season, and Esteban Leon scored his third. Esteban’s goal was a thing of beauty, booting a corner kick directly inside the far post from the corner flag to finish off the scoring for HCMS.
Coach Shatoya Coogle’s girls soccer team was credited with a win due to Walker not fielding a team. The Lady Eagles also now stand at 2-2 on the season as of this date.

THANK YOU!!
Thank you to the PTSA and Latinos in Action for selling concessions at the home soccer game!

September 18th
Coach Coogle’s girls soccer team beat the new Luminary MS on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon to raise their record to 3-2. Eighth grader Abrare Boulerhcha scored the game’s only goal in the first half, and the Lady Eagles hung on to win, 1-0. Coach Coogle’s girls now have a big game on Monday against Freedom MS that will make or break their playoff hopes.
Coach Anthony D’orsa’s boys soccer also raised their record to 3-2 on the season with a 2-1 victory over the Wolves. 8th graders Jacob Hance and Juan Melendez scored the HCMS goals; Jacob in the first half, Juan in the second. The Eagles almost recorded a shutout was it not for a Luminary free kick goal in the waning seconds of regulation.
Go Eagles!
