Dawn of Redeeming Grace
Despite the darkness of our world, God’s gracious gift of his Son brings light that can never be extinguished. This truth was the theme for the 2022 Christmas concert: Dawn of Redeeming Grace.

With music from the Wind Symphony, Women’s Choir, Chorale, College Choir, and Hosanna Ringers, the concert highlighted the diverse musical talent of our campus family.

The ensembles presented pieces in a variety of styles, including a unique arrangement of “Silent Night” titled “Love’s Pure Light” performed by the combined choirs, and “A New Psalm,” which the Women's Choir sang in Hebrew.

The MLC campus family thanks you for joining us for the 2022 Christmas concert. May God bless you this Christmas season!

Fun Amid Finals
The end of the semester is packed with studying, recitals, and projects, but at MLC, it’s also packed with fun! Basketball and drama (the scripted kind) relieved the stress of finals.
Tip-Off Tournament

Basketball season is in full swing for both current and future Knights. The annual Tip-Off Tournament on December 8-10 brought players to MLC from Northland, Evergreen, Great Plains, and Nebraska Lutheran High Schools.

With eight tournament games and four college games, this Focus on Ministry trip allowed students to compete in basketball, imagine themselves as Knights, and even cheer from the student section!

Giving high school students a chance to visit campus and play some basketball at MLC was one goal of the tournament, but it wasn't the ultimate goal. Director of Admissions Ted Klug highlighted the focus of the weekend with the theme passage, 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

We pray that each of the visiting athletes considers a future in the public ministry.

Inside the Fourth Wall

Laughter and drama took center stage on December 9-11 in MLC Forum's one-act plays.

Featuring Wade Bradford's “Conflict” and Ian McWethy's “Appropriate Audience Behavior,” Inside the Fourth Wall explored familiar scenarios with an extra dose of humor and intrigue.

The show's directors, Jefferson Heyer (Immanuel-Greenville WI) and Isabel Monday (St. Peter-Appleton WI), loved collaborating with their casts. “I was just so happy to pour my ideas onto these talented actors and see my vision come to life,” Isabel said.

Most importantly, the directors developed skills for their future ministries. Jefferson said, “One of the main reasons I signed on to be a director was to prepare myself for the ministry. I knew going in that this would prepare me for future leadership positions down the line.”

International Education Week
On November 14-18, the Cultural Engagement Center (CEC) celebrated International Education Week.

International Coordinator Professor Tingting Schwartz said, “I found International Education Week to serve two purposes: empowering our international students to share their unique stories and perspectives, and increasing cultural awareness on campus so that we can be better equipped for the Great Commission.”
Each day of the week, one of MLC's international students read Scripture in their home language during morning chapel. On November 18, Yijin Wang (pictured) read Malachi 4 in Mandarin.

The CEC also hosted nightly presentations on students' experiences abroad. Offerings included presentations from Rebekah White (Loving Shepherd-Milwaukee), Katherine Boehlke (Good Shepherd-Burnsville MN), and Kendra Rivera (Messiah-South Windsor CT) about studying abroad in Berlin, Limerick, and London, respectively, and a discussion with the International Student Panel.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day at MLC prepares students for ministry in a multicultural society. MLC’s upcoming celebration of MLK Day takes place on January 16, 2023, and centers on 1 Corinthians 12:12: “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.”

MLC will host keynote speaker Ronald Kelly and provide a variety of activities for the campus family, including a social dynamic simulation, a movie discussion, choir and fine arts workshops, a panel discussion, and more.
