Strong Neighborhoods Initiative (SNI) Updates
On behalf of the Strong Neighborhoods Initiative Selection Committee and the City of OKC Planning Team, THANK YOU for participating in the SNI application and interview process. You all did a fantastic job! We loved your enthusiasm and enjoyed learning more about your great neighborhoods.
After careful consideration and deliberation, the committee's recommendation to City Council was approved on January 3rd:
- Begin to work in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Neighborhood starting in July 2023 for a five-year term.
- Continue SNI work in Capitol Hill for two more years, ending in June 2025
- In two years, when Capitol Hill and Metro Park "graduate", the committee will reconvene and invite Heronville, NE Renaissance, Ross Heights, and Stockyards City to reapply to fill those two spots.
In the meantime, the committee recommends that all of the neighborhoods take advantage of the free services and workshops offered by Neighborhood Alliance, such as neighborhood organizing, resources, advocacy, and capacity-building training. Their website is www.nacok.org. We want to see you continue your momentum, get informed about resources, and reach your full potential!
If anyone is interested, I will be happy to talk with individual neighborhoods to provide feedback about yesterday's results. We can also discuss resources and contacts to address some of the issues you mentioned in the interviews.
We appreciate your time and commitment to your neighborhood. I hope you will respond when I contact you about reapplying in two years!
Sincerely,
Shannon Entz, CNU-A
