Happy Spooky Season, Theatre Family!
This is my favorite time of year where the leaves change color and everything feels cozy. We’re fully embracing the start of theatre season here in Chicagoland—and there’s so much to celebrate and look forward to this fall!
First up, we're less than one week away from our highly anticipated Spotlight Gala on October 8, from 5-9pm at the Zhou B Art Center. This year marks an exciting milestone for the League as we celebrate 45 years of supporting and uplifting Chicago’s vibrant theatre community. The Gala will be a night to remember, as we honor the incredible artists and organizations that make our community shine. Plus, we’ll be announcing the winners of the Broadway In Chicago Emerging Theatre Award and Backstage Champion Award—two awards that recognize the dedication and talent that fuel our industry.
We hope you’ll join us for this special evening. Your participation is vital to ensuring the continued success of the League’s work in advocating for and supporting our theatre community. Every dollar raised will help sustain the League’s programs, advocacy efforts, and vital resources for artists and organizations across Chicagoland. Together, we can build a brighter future for Chicago theatre!
In addition to the Gala, we’re excited to participate in the Arts in the Dark Parade on October 19. We’re inviting our members to walk with us in this glowing, artistic celebration of Chicago’s creativity and culture. As we head into the busy season, we’re also hard at work behind the scenes advocating for the future of the arts in our community. We’re continuing our push for funding, shared resources and research as we partner with other service organizations on the city and state level. Your voice and support are vital to ensuring that the arts continue to thrive, so stay tuned for advocacy updates and ways you can get involved. This month, we also pause to recognize two important observances among many taking place this season:

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: We stand in solidarity with the members of our theatre community who have been impacted by breast cancer, acknowledging their strength and resilience. This is a time for all of us to raise awareness and show support for those navigating this journey.

LGBTQ+ History Month: We honor the contributions, creativity, and courage of LGBTQ+ artists and individuals who have helped shape our industry and our world. It’s a time to reflect on the progress made, as well as the work still to be done to ensure equality, inclusivity, and support for the LGBTQ+ community.
