CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Week of March 16, 2025

WEEKLY PROJECT CLOSURES

There are no closures scheduled the week of March 16. All work will take place in protected work zones behind concrete barriers, also known as k-rail. At times, this work may be loud or cause dust and vibration. Traffic delays are expected. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time to reach your destination or use alternate routes if possible.

All construction is dynamic and the schedule is weather-permitting and subject to change. Visit the Google map (project Google map) for the most up-to-date closures scheduled and available detour routes.

CEDAR AVENUE BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION

The Cedar Avenue bridges over the

I-10 freeway and the railroad tracks are being widened and reconstructed in two stages.

Traffic has been shifted onto the west half while crews work to widen the east half of Cedar Avenue. Once reconstruction of the east half is complete, crews will then perform bridge widening and reconstruction along the west half.

Traffic delays should be expected during bridge reconstruction, please use caution when traveling through work zones. See the updated construction schedule below:

  • Summer 2025: Completion of the east half of Cedar Avenue, including the freeway and railroad bridges.
  • Summer 2025 to Spring 2026: Traffic will shift to the newly constructed east half, and crews will demolish and reconstruct the west half of the freeway and railroad bridges.
  • Spring 2026 to Summer 2026: Road rehabilitation will take place on Cedar Avenue, north of Valley Boulevard and south of Orange Street.
  • Mid-2027: Erosion control measures will be implemented at the interchange.

LEFT TURN RESTRICTION:

SOUTHBOUND CEDAR AVENUE ON TO ORANGE STREET

Motorists traveling southbound (SB) on Cedar Avenue are prohibited from making a left turn on to Orange Street while the Cedar Avenue Bridge is under construction.

The recommended detour route is shown in green on the map.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The I-10/Cedar Avenue Interchange Project is designed to relieve congestion, enhance safety, and improve traffic operations along Cedar Avenue between Bloomington Avenue and Orange Street. The project will widen the I-10 overcrossing and replace the railroad bridge, provide for roadway improvements along Cedar Avenue, and add capacity to the on- and off-ramps from Cedar Avenue to the I-10. During construction activities may include removing and rebuilding of existing and new structures, digging up roads for utility work, pavement and restriping work, installation of new traffic signals, traffic shifts, intermittent lane closures, and ramp closures. Workers and heavy equipment will be present throughout the project corridor and we ask that you allow for extra time to reach your destination as you may experience delays.
