Last month, a vehicle flashing its lights came to a sudden stop outside St. Luke’s Hospital in Nablus, a city in the West Bank of Palestine. Inside the car was a young couple – Muna, 25 years old and in active labor, and her husband. Muna had already endured a harrowing three-hour wait at an army checkpoint and they were desperately trying to reach a hospital before the baby came. Unfortunately it was too late, and Muna gave birth in the car, steps from the hospital.
The maternity team at St. Luke’s was able to assist, completing the delivery safely in the vehicle. Muna, however, suffered from severe bleeding that put her life at risk, requiring immediate admission to the intensive care unit. Thanks to the meticulous and compassionate care of the doctors and nurses at St. Luke’s, Muna recovered and her newborn son received critical care in the neonatal unit.
Muna and her baby were eventually discharged in good health, but their challenges persist. Muna’s husband recently lost his job due to the economic hardships intensified by regional conflicts, leaving the family unable to cover the hospital expenses. Thanks to the generosity of AFEDJ donors like you, St. Luke's Hospital was able to provide care, regardless of their ability to pay.
