IDDSI June 2024

MIAMI NICE!! – The FIRST US IDDSI FESTIVAL WAS FABULOUS!

June 5 and 6th, 2024, the first US IDDSI Festival was launched in Miami Florida and what a festival it was! Congratulations and a big thank you to Amanda Demane and Andrea Charvet, US IDDSI Festival 2024 Co-Chairs, the amazing planning team and volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this event.

June 5/24 offered an opportunity for participants to enjoy “hands on” workshops in 3 advanced workshops including the culinary aspects of IDDSI with Alexander (Abe) Konick and John Holahan, Evidence Based IDDSI practice with Dr. Luis F. Riquelme, Caroline Brindo, and Paula Sullivan and Pediatrics and IDDSI with Dr. Memorie Gosa, Dr. Joan Arvedson and Jan Duivestein.

Is there culinary in IDDSI?

Evidence Based IDDSI

Pediatric IDDSI Power!

The main event on June 6/24 brought attendees together to learn about:

  • Success Implementation Story: Real World IDDSI Challenges presented by Paula Sullivan, Jennifer Davis and Megan Mahoney
  • Testing, Testing, Testing: Distinguishing IDDSI from Everything Else with Dr. Ben Hanson
  • Cultural Considerations for IDDSI: It’s not just about the USA presented by ·Dr. Luis F. Riquelme and Tin Wai (Tiffany) Siu
  • Regulation Station: Do I need to follow IDDSI when considering healthcare regulatory bodies across the US? with speaker Vickie Bergquist

The audience also had an opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with the speakers in a panel format looking at “Championing IDDSI Together” followed by Amanda Demane and Dr. Andrea Charvet giving updates from the USIRG and encouraging participants to engage and not just talk, but create an action plan.

IDDSI Global Chair Peter Lam closed out the session with a beautiful personal story to inspire everyone to look to the future and beyond.

Between these excellent sessions, attendees had an opportunity to interact with the exhibitors and event sponsors. “so glad I came”, “this event was awesome”, and “where will the event be next year?” were common comments heard from the attendees.

The US Festival Committee along with IDDSI Global would like to extend appreciation to all the sponsors who provided support for this event.
