PAWSITIVE PROGRAM UPDATES!

SERVICE DOGS & PAROLED PETS

Service Dog and Paroled Pet training has returned to PPP!

Please meet Patrick, Boseman, Tina, Audre, and Baker.

Patrick

Thank you Tracy and Tellus at JJ Hospice Therapy Dog for supporting PPP programming and providing opportunity for incarcerated individuals to earn certification as Service Dog Trainers and for the future handler to have increased independence.

Thank you to the Madden family for naming this puppy in honor of your brother, Patrick Madden.

Patrick is growing like a weed! He is so smart and showing great qualities as he learns Level 1 Cues.

Boseman

Boseman is named in honor of the late Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick Boseman became the first African American superhero in a major feature film when he starred in the 2018 movie Black Panther, the 12th-highest grossing movie of all time. In 2016, Boseman was diagnosed with cancer. He never revealed his diagnosis and continued to work in films through chemotherapy and surgeries. He supported many cancer charities and visited with terminally ill children battling cancer up until passing away August 28, 2020.

Boseman is absolutely adorable and already responding to Level 1 Cues like a champ. He is calm and gentle - perfect attributes for a future service dog.

Tina

Tina is named in honor of the Queen of Rock and Roll, Tina Turner, who sadly passed away March 24, 2023. The legendary singer was noted for her “swagger, sensuality, powerful gravelly vocals and unstoppable energy.”

Love’s got everything to do with Paroled Pet Tina. She loves her trainer - Mati, loves playing in the yard with others, loves playing in the water, loves attention, and has graduated Foundations Level 1 Cues.

Audre

Audre is named after American writer, professor, philosopher, and civil rights activist Audre Lorde in honor of Pride month. Audre Lorde is a self-described “black, lesbian, feminist, socialist, mother, warrior, poet,” who “dedicated both her life and creative talent to confronting and addressing injustices of racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia."

Audre’s trainer, Stormy, is working with her to successfully pass Foundations Level 1 training. Audre is very sweet and will make a great pet for her future family.

Baker

Baker is named after American-born French entertainer and civil rights activist, Josephine Baker in honor of Pride month. Josephine Baker was an openly bisexual singer, actor, and performer who fought for equity for queer people, women, and people of color throughout her life. She is the first African American woman to star in a motion picture and was one of the first African American entertainers who achieved acclaim both in movies and on the stage. Baker aided her adopted country of France during World War II by spying on Nazis. She fought for equality in the United States, first by refusing to perform in segregated theaters and later by speaking at the 1963 March on Washington. She adopted 12 children from countries around the world - dubbing her children a "rainbow tribe" and believed the group could prove "racial hatred is not natural. It's an invention of man."

Baker is gentle, sweet, and responding well to Foundations training. He will make a perfect addition to his future family.
