Mrs. Cairns lives in Upper St. Clair with her husband Curt, a CV Middle School teacher and head varsity baseball coach, her son Aidan, a sophomore at John Carroll University, and her daughter Olivia, who is a junior at Upper St. Clair High School. Mrs. Kern
Mrs. Kern has been teaching at Chartiers Valley for 24 years. Although she was born in Pittsburgh, she began her teaching career in Virginia, teaching 6th grade. When she returned to Pittsburgh she worked at the Pittsburgh Zoo and the Middle School. She found her happy place as a 5th grade teacher and has been partnered with Ms. Haley for so many years that they started to dress the same! Not planned, though! Mrs. Kern grew up in the West End of Pittsburgh, where her parents still live in the house she grew up in. She went to Langley High School. She graduated from Penn State with a teaching degree and went on to the University of Pittsburgh to earn a Master's Degree in Education and Reading Specialist certification.
Mrs. Kern is married to Dave Kern. Their family includes two daughters, Samantha and Riley, and their husbands. In addition to the human children, Mrs. and Mr. Kern have a furry child named Carl. They live in Wexford, where they hike and bike in North Park and Hartwood Acres. They also enjoy skiing, golfing and are serious Steelers and Pirates fans. They love traveling in their camper to as many national parks as possible, stopping at many interesting places along the way.
