Business Affairs All-Staff Meeting

Join Business Affairs for the first all-staff meeting of 2023 on January 30 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Learn about campus diversity initiatives, receive updates about the customer service survey, participate in an accountability exercise led by Campus Ombuds Dr. David Schwartz, celebrate the 2022 employees of the year, take team photos with the UNLV block letters, and more. The all-staff meeting is the perfect opportunity to reconnect with colleagues over light refreshments as we set our priorities for the year ahead.

Monthly Observances

Collage of two photos (on the left a message board reads "Black History Month" and the picture on the right reads "American Heart Month".

February is National Black History Month. Created by Carter G. Woodson in 1926 as “Negro History Week”, the celebration has grown to an internationally recognized month that honors the achievements of Black individuals worldwide. Visit the UNLV Libraries Black History Month Resource Guide to learn more.

February is also American Heart Month, a time when we are reminded to focus on our cardiovascular health. In 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared the first American Heart Month to address heart disease in the United States. Take steps this month to pay special attention to understanding, preventing, and treating heart disease, the #1 killer of Americans.

Employee Assistance Program Resources

UNLV’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) partner ComPsych offers healthy heart resources for American Heart Month. From sticking to a balanced diet to staying physically active, learn effective ways to take control of your cardiovascular health. Visit ComPsych’s website and register using the organization's Web ID: UNLVEAP for additional resources.

EAP resources are available to all UNLV employees and eligible dependents.

In addition to the healthy heart resources, ComPsych will host a webinar on how to let go of things that are keeping you from living your best life. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, February 8 at 12 p.m. See the Human Resources calendar for more information.

December Employee Appreciation Recipients

Deon Day

Risk Management & Safety

Deon was nominated for going above and beyond his scope of duties to promote a culture of safety at UNLV. In addition to his assigned workload, he performed occupational safety reviews of 267 campus events. This included reviewing the event details to ensure that safety procedures were being followed and proper setup/execution took place. For larger events, such as the College of Fine Arts Art Walk, Homecoming, and NFR, he walked each event several times to make sure that any concerns were appropriately addressed.

Facilities Management

Kinesha was nominated for taking on additional responsibilities while her team has been short-staffed. She maintained construction schedules and effectively communicated project updates with the occupants of the work areas, contractors, and facilities management trades personnel. To ensure there is a continuous exchange of information in real time, she attends production and coordination meetings. During the 2022 holiday season, at times, she was the only person working within her group.

Spotlight on Service

The fourth annual Business Affairs Customer Service Survey results are in and our teams received a number of kudos for providing exceptional customer service. Here are a few examples of the positive feedback received:

Risk Management & Safety’s mandatory annual courses and updates are all online now and interactive with video/scenarios. This is very helpful. RMS also comes to our building and does annual inspections, etc. They are very efficient overall and communicate well before and after the visit.”

“A plumber came immediately to address an issue with the hot water and drain in our department kitchen. He informed us that he needed a part and would be back. To my surprise, he quickly returned the same day and repaired it for us!”
