2023 City of Airdrie Proposed Budget
On November 9th, the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce Board and Executive Director had the opportunity to meet with City staff where they presented the proposed 2023 City of Airdrie budget. The presentation concluded with an engaging question and answer period, which involved an open conversation on several important topics, including the following:
- How is the City of Airdrie planning to offset a 7 to 10% proposed annual tax increase from 2023 to 2031?
- To offset the residential and commercial business tax increase, our Chamber is encouraging the City to actively pursue major growth in the industrial sector.
- We encourage the City to apply for all provincial and federal funding opportunities to assist with cost savings, and to leverage partnerships with organizations such as our Chamber in the advocacy efforts.
- We also recommend exploring the viability of a bare land tax.
- We encourage the City to inform businesses on the City’s goals to stabilize the tax increase in the coming years.
To enforce our advocacy efforts, the Airdrie Chamber sent a letter of recommendation to Airdrie City Council as they deliberate the 2023 proposed City of Airdrie budget.

Host a Free Tax Clinic with the CVITP Grant
Whether it’s the Canada Child Benefit, the GST/HST credit, or the Climate Action Incentive, benefits and credits are essential for helping families with the rising cost of living. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is committed to making it easier for people with low or modest incomes to access these important benefits and credits.
Free tax clinics hosted through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) and Income Tax Assistance – Volunteer Program (ITAVP) in Quebec are at the heart of these efforts. So far in 2022, over 3,300 community partners and 14,500 volunteers have helped over 630,000 people access benefits and credits by completing their income tax and benefit returns.
To reach even more Canadians, the CRA is enhancing the funding available to community organizations through their grant for hosting free tax clinics, also known as the CVITP Grant.

Supporting agricultural labour demands
Record-setting economic growth in Alberta’s agriculture and agri-food sector has ignited demand for workers across the province.
To support producers and processors, Alberta, in partnership with the federal government, is providing $2.5 million to Ag for Life to help companies recruit, hire and retain workers in the agriculture and agri-food industry.

Canadian Industry for Ukraine – How Can You Help? |

The Government of Canada has issued an appeal to Canadian businesses interested in providing support to displaced Ukrainians arriving in Canada. Canada has partnered with the Canadian Immigrant Settlement Sector Alliance – Alliance canadienne du secteur de l’établissement des immigrants (CISSA-ACSEI) and its national network of settlement organizations to provide direct and critical support to those in need. Donations from Canadian businesses will go to Ukrainians and other displaced persons making Canada their home.
