Yellowhammer Fund Collection

Yellowhammer Fund is ecstatic to announce that they recently purchased a bus and this summer they’re taking it on the road across the state of Alabama!

The bus serves as a mobile unit for supply distribution of reproductive health items such as emergency contraceptives, condoms, pregnancy tests, period products, diapers, and more. Their goal is to increase access to services and to make sure that Alabamians know about The Yellowhammer Fund as a resource, especially now that it’s been nearly a year since Roe v. Wade was overturned and abortion became illegal in Alabama and most of the South.

The bus is slated to stop in Huntsville on 7/22/2023 and is being hosted by United Women of Color in Huntsville. More information to follow, but if you would like you can bring any of the items listed above and place them in the basket in the sanctuary. You can also show Yellowhammer Fund’s wishlist on Amazon here.

If you are interested in participating in the rally, you may contact Rev. Jaimie or Kristen Warrington for more information.

UUCH Board Report June 27, 2023

The UUCH Board of Trustees met for its regularly scheduled meeting on June 27, 2023.

The annual minister evaluation was completed and approved. Several adjustments to the Policy and Procedure Manual were made to clarify the role of the Vice President of the Board and the duties of the Stewardship Committee. The Board approved moving the remaining money in the Covid-19 Relief Fund ($1750) to the Minister’s Discretionary Fund.

Earlier in the day, the papers were signed by Board members to finalize the loan for the repair of the beams, and to establish an open line of credit for $120,000 as voted by the congregation.

Rev. Jaimie just returned from GA where the new UUA President, Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt, was overwhelmingly elected. Rev. Jaimie was proud to be a part of that search, and believes Dr. Betancourt will make a very good president. Rev. Jaimie will be presenting to the congregation some of the conversations that are going on in UUA about the possible changes to Article II of the UUA Bylaws, Principles and Purposes.

Shalin Mody presented the details of the Safety Team Report, including the needs for the Team, the progress so far, and planning for the future. They will be setting up a sign-up for volunteers to act as safety teams for Sunday services.

The Board appointed the nominated members to serve one-year terms on the Church Council:

  • Adult Religious Education: Teri Thomas (returning)
  • Care (co-chairs): Nancy Pettus, Nancy Stetson
  • CYRE: Rhiannon Carpenter
  • Fellowship (co-chairs): Steve Rittenberg (returning), Sarah Rody (returning)
  • Finance: Bob Weed (returning)
  • Hospitality (co-chairs): June Norton, Andrew Warrington

  • Property (co-chairs): Paul Wieland (returning), Wayne Schroer
  • Stewardship: Zena Tucker
  • Technology: Matthew Bollinger
  • Worship/Music: Suzey Delacey (returning/Worship)

The Council will be organizing the Committee Fair – August 20 or 27

The next meeting of the Board will be on Tuesday, July, 25, 2023.
