Farragut Band Boosters Meeting and More!

Hello Band Boosters!

As I hope you know by now, the Farragut High School Band is performing the Holiday Concert in the auditorium on December 12th at 7:00pm. For those that haven't seen this concert before, it's always a fun evening with great music.

The Farragut Band Boosters Board will have some business to discuss and I promise that we will take up as little time as possible so you can enjoy the work the kids have done for this concert. With that being said, I wanted to give everyone 2 specific items that we will be discussing that are not in our current budget.

  1. Needed Chairs - Currently we have a limited number of chairs available for our students in the band. Most of the chairs we currently are using are falling apart and are desperately in need of replacement. I personally discussed with the administration and made phone calls to downtown regarding this situation and was met with some resistance. In other words, we would need to pay for chairs if they're needed. Dr. Bartlett has generously offered to pay for half of the cost of the chairs using school funding and has asked the Band Boosters to pay for the other half. We would like to purchase 250 chairs with our responsibility being $7,000.
  2. Needed Instruments - This is an area where we will always strive to have good equipment. Not just in working order, but it needs to be in good order overall. We have 3 Marimbas that are in dire need of replacement due to age and deterioration. Mr. Carrico has found an amazing deal on 2 "new to us" Marimbas. These were used for only a few months and look brand new. We purchased 2 Tubas this way just last year. The cost of a single new Marimba is just over $16,000. These 2 would be right at $16,000. Tom Nielander and myself would rent a Penske truck paid for through Booster funds making a day trip to pick them up in Nashville, which would save about half of the shipping charges.

The board conducted a vote after lots of discussion regarding these matters. The board was unanimous in approval of the spending on both matters. If you have any questions, please reply to this email and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Of course, I will open up any questions at the meeting as well.

Sincerely,

Brian Fox
