SETTLED SEARCH TEAM UPDATE

Happy Friday, UUCUC! If you haven’t already, please sign up for one of the remaining cottage meetings (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0A4CA4AB2BA0FD0-cottage), small group sessions where we will try to flesh out some of the congregation’s needs as expressed in the recent survey. This is the last week that we will be hosting them, so get in while you can. Your voice is important!

Last Sunday after church your Search Team headed out for a retreat to reinforce the groundwork we’ve already laid in our process for bringing our next settled minister. We started with a very thoughtful session down the street from the church at the Green Yoga Spa where Mary Wolters led us in a guided meditation, then dove with us into a discussion of non-violent communication (https://www.cnvc.org/), helping us to remain mindful of how the ways in which we choose to communicate affect others.

Please consider donating to the Little Free Pantries run by Julie Laut (Urbana) and AJ Herzog (Champaign), which they have maintained year-round since March 2020. Their Amazon wish list has been updated to include unique summer items. The wishlist can be sorted to identify high priority items. All orders sent through Amazon are delivered to Julie's house and split between the two pantries. You are also welcome to drop off items in person at both locations. Questions? JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, October 9, 2022.

From Sam Beshers: For Janet Revell Barrett and her joyous hymn leading

From Marsha Clinard: Our grandson, Wade Schacht, a senior at Central High School, won the state championship in golf yesterday. He won in a sudden death tie-break. Winning state has been his goal since he began, as a freshman, to play with the team. We are so very proud of him. Second Joy, my brother and his wife in Bonita Springs, Florida, finally have power after nine days. Fortunately their condo was not damaged. Sadly, our favorite spot to go every January, Sanibel Island, will never be the same which is a tragedy.

From David Gross: Next Saturday, all members and friends of UUCUC are invited to the home of David and Claudia Gross for a massive downsizing event. A lot of interesting stuff will be available FREE. Please help us prepare for a move to ClarkLindsey. Details were in ENews. Our move will be 60 years after we began dating as undergraduates. There have been a lot of years to accumulate things that are now being given away.

From the McDermott Family: The McDermott family joyfully announces the birth of Sophia Christina McDermott on October 8! 8 lbs, 6 oz. Mother and daughter tired but happy at Carle.

From Walk McMahon: I am eternally grateful that my two oldest daughters, Vicki and Lynn, both of whom grew up in this church, they have both come through serious operations for Cancer this past week. Vicki a double mastectomy for breast cancer, and Lynn an operation for uterine cancer. In both cases they caught it early, got it all, and are now home recovering and doing well.

From Lynn Wiley: Joy in that so many are rallying to protect and sustain women in their right to reproductive freedom.
Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
GIVING AND GRATITUDE
UUCUC Social Action Offering. Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive offerings from our congregation. You may donate to the social action offering for the month in one of the following ways:

SOCIAL ACTION OFFERING FOR OCTOBER 2022
Trauma & Resilience Initiative is a non-profit organization and community of individuals who are working to help make Champaign County a trauma & justice informed community where everyone has the right to be, become, and belong.

The strategies used to accomplish these goals are to provide education and information about trauma & structural inequities and its impact throughout the community, helping healers, educators, and leaders address the needs of those affected; and supporting survivors impacted by community violence and community adversity with healing, wellness, and recovery support.

To that end, we provide a range of healing centered support for survivors, their families, and their communities from the moment of crisis throughout their healing journeys; and for those healers, educators, and helpers that work with them. We believe ‘it takes a village to heal.’
