Because Presbyterian celebrate century birthdays!

Last Sunday at Hope Presbyterian Church in Austin, they celebrated Fran Kiefer’s 100th birthday (she’s the one in the pink jacket!). The church is blessed to have three nonagenarians, two centenarians, and one youngster. Altogether, this group represents over 520 years of life lived, experienced, and embraced.

5 Ways Forward for Very Small Congregations - Lewis Center for Church Leadership

Most congregations are small, but most people are in large congregations.' This statement by sociologist Mark Chaves captures the dominant trends in church size and attendance patterns over several decades. According to the National Congregations Study (NCS) that Chaves directs, the 9 percent of churches with 360 or more participants have half of worshipers. Likewise, the 91 percent of congregations with fewer than 360 participants have the other half of worshipers.

Work by the TGPNC Begins

Your Transitional General Presbyter Nominating Committee (TGPNC) has been working to put the pieces in place to call the Transitional General Presbyter for Mission Presbytery. We've completed the Mission Discernment Profile (MDP). The MDP is now active and can be found on the Church Leadership Connection (CLC) website. You'll find the links below for the MDP and the job description. We encourage and invite qualified candidates to apply!

We ask for your prayers: for us as a committee; for the person God is equipping to serve as our Transitional GP; and for Mission Presbytery as we prepare to receive this person.

Yours in Christ,

BK Gamble, Lita Simpson, Alan Constant, Brian Diebold, and Nancy McCranie

TGP Job Description
TGP MDP

A prayer from Laurie Palmer, Stated Clerk

Holy God,

You have set a path before us; we only need to perceive it.

No small order.

You show us Your grace in the things we see and experience and in people we know and don’t know.

Thank You.

We keep these saints in our prayers in the coming days:

Sallie Watson, BK Gamble, Lita Simpson, Brian Diebold, Alan Constant, Nancy McCranie, Walt Lee, Judy Ferguson, CORP, those You would lift up to serve on commissions, committees, and task forces; and for who You are calling to be Transitional General Presbyter.

Let us take time in Your time.

We cast our anxieties upon You because You care for us. (1 Peter 5:7)

Amen.

Sallie's Ponderings

While the General Council has begun the process of selecting a Transitional General Presbyter, Sallie has begun the process of beginning retirement. This includes the creation of a "transition" document for their successor. In addition to information and "best advice", Sallie wonders what your advice would be.

Transition over to a comfy space to read this week's edition of the Ponderings.

Because Presbyterians celebrate youth!

Youth dedication at First Presbyterian Church in Brownsville.

Because Presbyterians love to celebrate their birthdays.

Greetings from the saints of Cotulla First who celebrated their 140th anniversary! They don't look a day over 139. The longest-tenured member present was Mr. Barber, who joined when he was ten and is now a lot older than that! (He's on the right side in the sport coat, just behind the pastor) They also celebrated the retirement of their supply pastor for the past ten years, Lorna Jean Miller.
