All of us, from time to time, encounter folks in our community who request help. They want to know where they can find food when Macon Outreach isn’t operating, or on cold nights where the warming shelters are, or where they can receive medical services. How do we help answer those questions? Where can we, ourselves, find those resources?
That’s a question that came up at our Church Council meeting this past Monday and it’s a good one. We want to be helpful! And there’s a great app we can put on our phones for free that offers a “one-stop shop” for services for those facing a variety of needs.
Download the "Daybreak Macon" app on your phone - click here for Apple - click here for Android. Anyone with a smartphone can use this app, and it is free to download! It is a great resource to help educate all of us on how best to offer support to our brothers and sisters in Macon who are in need; a resource provided by the Daybreak Shelter who is also sponsoring the sleep out on February 23!
Once downloaded, open the app and click “Services” toward the bottom of the screen. This will bring up a list on the left of various kinds of services offered across Macon. Need to refer someone to receive clothing? Touch the words, “Clothing Services.” Maybe someone is looking for a warming center? Touch the word, “Housing,” to find a list of emergency housing spaces in Macon.
I encourage all of us to download this app and familiarize ourselves with all the resources available in our area, so that if we get questions from folks around the church, we can help refer them to the resources they need.
And speaking of church council, we had a great meeting Monday night in our new format. Spencer Smith has shared a brief recap of our meeting highlighting our work that evening – you can find that message down below in this newsletter!
Peace,
Ted
