Looking Ahead: Blessing of the Animals

Mark Saturday, October 6 on your calendars as the day we'll be holding a Blessing of the Animals service--pets welcome! We'll be gathering in the Michigan Avenue courtyard at 10:00 a.m. for a simple service of song, prayer, and story as we thank God for the special creatures in our lives.

Thank you to all who updated your Fourth Connect profile in the past week, whether online or during our "Get Connected" Coffee Hour!

As part of this community-building effort we have already collected more than 160 completed interest forms and added more than 190 photos to profiles.

Opportunity to have your profile photo taken will again be available during Coffee Hour this Sunday, and there will also be interest profiles on hand to fill in. If you prefer to complete the profile at home and return it to the church, you can download a form here.

If you haven't done this yet, please do take a moment to help us learn more about our Fourth Church community and build connections with one another!

There is still opportunity to recommend yourself or other Fourth Church members to serve as church leaders.

The Nominating Committee is continuing to collect recommendations for church leadership through Sunday, September 30.

This Sunday we will be receiving a Disaster Relief Offering to help meet the emergency needs of those affected by recent disasters such as Hurricane Florence and Super Typhoon Mangkhut.

Gifts, which will be distributed through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, can also be made online or by writing “Disaster Assistance” on the memo line of a check made payable to Fourth Presbyterian Church.

Complimentary classes in our new “Together We Play” Day School program are being offered on Tuesdays, October 2 and 9, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This weekly interactive class for parents and toddlers (ages 18–24 months) combines free-play activities, songs, and stories as well as opportunity to meet other families, all in a one-hour program led by an early childhood professional.

For more information, contact Josie Phelps.

The Racial Equity Council of Fourth Church invites you to a discussion with Lutheran minister and author Joseph Ellwanger about his new book, Strength for the Struggle: Insights from the Civil Rights Movement and Urban Ministry, next Sunday, September 30 at 1:00 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel.

In his book, Joseph Ellwanger talks candidly about race relations in the United States and particularly in Birmingham, Alabama, during the civil rights movement of the 1960s.

In his time with us, Pastor Ellwanger will revisit “Bloody Sunday” and share his experience as a white minister who marched with Dr. King. He will also lead us in exploring where the church in this country stands today and look at strategies for it to move forward creatively and boldly toward its mission of racial justice and equity.

Please join us in welcoming the newest members of the Fourth Church family--those who were received into Fourth Church membership this past Sunday:
