Time for Summer Vacation

at SusanvilleStuff! Hurray!

We’ve reached the mid-point of our Susanville Summer and it’s time for us to close our office for a brief break before we come back to a busy month, including the Lassen County Fair! Our offices will be closed until July 10th as we take some time off to get out and enjoy our Lassen County summer.

We will still be around to cover breaking news or stories that are important, plus we will still have vital daily features like Smith Properties’ Morning Weather, LMUD’s ‘This Day in History’ and some other assorted goodies.

Adopt A Pet from the Lassen

County Animal Shelter – Fergus

Dear Fergus came to the Lassen County Animal Shelter as a stray, so his past history is unknown to staff. However, Fergus has been a wonderful boy during his stay. He plays well with other dogs, loves cuddles from people, and enjoys playing in the kiddie pools out in the dog runs. He would do well in a home with another dog to show him the ropes.

Fergus is estimated to be about 6 months old and staff guesses that he is an Anatolian shepherd mix, which means potential adopters should expect him to get big.

Fergus will be neutered, brought up to date on his vaccinations, and heartworm tested prior to adoption. If interested in meeting this big pup, or other adoptable animals at the shelter, please call staff at (530) 257-9200.

Additional: If there are dogs already in the home, it is suggested that potential adopters bring them to the shelter to do a meet and greet with the new dog.

2-Armed Robbers Escape with Cash

July 3, 1953

Two armed robbers held up Ed Hale, bartender at Buck’s Tavern, Doyle, Calif., at about 12:30a.m., Thursday and escaped with $350 in cash, the sheriff’s office reported.

Road blocks were immediately thrown up at Reno and Portola but at the latest reports, the robbers were not apprehended.

Hale said that the two men, after obtaining the $350, asked that he turn over two guns which were in a box near the cash register.

After leaving the tavern the two got into a car in which a driver had been waiting, and started south on Highway 395.

I saw a television advertised in a shop window with a sign that said: "stuck on maximum volume, only $5"...

I thought to myself, I can’t turn that down!
