Every Season Is a Fairy Season

Now through September 5

It's A Great Time to Support the Bridge

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on the generosity of donations, grants, and volunteerism to ensure that the Bridge remains A Gateway to Somewhere Beautiful for all who visit. See how you can take advantage of these opportunities this month to help support us!

Commemorative Brick Promo – through July 31

Our pathways are edged with these 4" x 8" pavers, and your brick with a three-line inscription will be permanently displayed. If you buy a brick this year, not only will you help sustain the Bridge and its gardens, but you will also be connecting with our 10th Anniversary and this unique attraction.

Pay only $160 per brick with this exclusive 20% Promo Discount.

If you purchase a brick during this special promotion, you can choose to include the "shooting star" symbol below as a special way to commemorate our 10th Anniversary! See our website for all the details and to order your brick today!

Playing For Our Partners

Saturday, July 8

6 8 pm

We're very excited to invite you to join us at the Old Rock Cafe in Chimney Rock. It promises to be the perfect summer evening with music from local musician Walter Finley and great food from the Old Rock Cafe chefs. There is no cost to attend the event, and menu items will be priced individually.

We will have an information table at the event, and several volunteers will be present to answer your questions. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge. We hope to see you there!

A commemorative brick can be a personal way to remember someone or a special milestone.

Earlier this spring, we received an order form for a brick to honor Benjamin Clyde Hord, the donor's father. The brick order included a letter telling the story of Clyde, who together with his father and two older brothers, helped to build the original bridge where the LLFB now stands. While his father and brothers helped to clear trees, Clyde was only 12 years of age and was put to work as a water boy.

"...my father seemed to have a great deal of pride in having been a part of Lake Lure's history. I share that same pride," writes Paula Hord Dedmond, from Shelby, NC.

Education Is Opportunity

Sun Printing on Fabric

July 25 – 10 am

Learn how to take fabric and plant leaves to create a beautiful piece of fabric art with the help of the sun. This class is free for those who want to observe only. There is a participation fee of $7 (cash only) and you will take home your finished silk scarf. Class size is limited; hurry and reserve your spot by contacting Debbie Clark. In the event of inclement weather, this class will be held at the Lake Lure Town Hall.

Harvesting and

Preserving Herbs

August 22 – 10 am

Master Gardener and LLFB volunteer Charlotte Gardner will teach you how to harvest your herbs and preserve them for future use. This class is free and open to the public.

We love teaching opportunities

 for all ages!

Our Pollinator Day celebration was a huge success and we thank all who came and participated. Pictured below top to bottom: Joyce Pearsall, a Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist, discusses the importance of milkweed for monarch butterflies. Volunteer Lynn Lang prepares to release hundreds of ladybugs, a wonderful natural predator to eat bad bugs in the garden. And Susan Brand, a NC beekeeper, brought a honeybee display and her local honey.

"We had so much fun [at Pollinator Day]! My oldest son, who was with me has done some work with bees, so it was a nice bonding time for us. I will use the materials we collected in our homeschool," said Julie Sowers Merrell, who participated at our Pollinator Day celebration.

Mr. McGregor Says...

Hey Kids! Hope you are enjoying your summer vacation. If you're looking for something fun to do, bring your parents and come visit the Flowering Bridge. There is a scavenger hunt you can do, there are fairy gardens scattered everywhere, and if you visit the Peter Rabbit garden, you can help me shoo away any pesky rabbits who are always looking for carrots.

Friends of the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge is a volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations to help preserve and maintain the Bridge gardens and to support our new Education Center are always appreciated – and tax-deductible.
