Celebrate The Fourth Of July!
July 4, 1776 was when the Declaration Of Independence was adopted by the Continental Congress. The actual signing took place on August 2, 1776. The committee to draft the declaration was formed on June 11, 1776. However, even before that, the battles of Lexington and Concord had begun on April 19,1776.
Had we lost the "War Of Independence", many of those founding fathers would have been killed, to put it kindly. Even though the Revolutionary War was successful, and they lived, many of those founding fathers had lost their fortunes. Upwards of 25,000 Americans died in the Revolutionary War, and mostly from disease. And, they did it for what reason?
In order to secure freedom for you and me.
That's quite a contrast - their deaths to our celebrations. But, it happened and it came to be.
So, when you are celebrating, take a moment out to give thanks for the freedom that we share.
And, may we continue to share. This is my prayer.
